Late to the party here. I run mostly 20" bars on my two 400's. One is a lightweight second generation Tsumura. The other is a current generation Stihl "4" lightweight. They get swapped out between my three other big saws...460, 462, 500. The only other lightweight I own is a 24/25" Tsumara that came with my first 400 as the prior owner had blinged it out. I cut PT for a guy that sells wood so any weight reduction is a plus when wielding a saw all day. I can see an advantage on a longer bar too as Chud stated. Be sure to post pics when it comes in. Wouldn't mind finding a NOS Stihl 20" lightweight bar.
I just went on eBay and those earlier Stihl bars and Cannon are Thinking I paid around $100 for my second generation Tsumura
Picked up the lightweight bar this afternoon. It definitely makes the saw lighter. More importantly, it shifts the weight back to the powerhead making it balance better.
Sweet! Is Stihl still making those? I always liked the look of those. Hope you were extra careful around that poison ivy.
My dealer ordered it for me so I assume they're still making them. Poison Ivy and Poison Oak don't bother me that much. A little Brake Clean, Dawn Dish Soap and a shower, I'm good to go. NYH1.
I treat it the same way...then my eyes swell shut and I am covered in puss scabs for the next month! Lol
I ran the saw with the new bar on it. I really like it, balances great. Definitely worth the money to me! NYH1.
Unless I acquire a bar with a saw, I’ll only purchase light weight bars from now on, to me they make that much difference. Even in a saw as small as a 241 or 543xp…
Yep, I agree. I like a saw that balances good. The 400 did balance pretty good with the regular bar, it just balances better now. Kind of the opposite of my 346. I bought it with a 16-inch bar. I was somewhere that was having a sale on Husky bars, so I grabbed a 18-inch bar for the 346 and a 24 inch for my 365. The 346 balances better with the 18-inch bar. I can't tell the difference in performance between the two, so I mostly just use the 18-inch bar. I like the 14-inch bar on my little 021. NYH1.
I run a 24” 3/8 light weight on my XS 353/346 or I did before I sold it, to fund an XS ported version of the Redheaded model.
