Bluebirds are common here in spring / summer. I put in a few nesting boxes for them several years ago and they always get pushed out by the sparrows.

Ive seen a bluebird maybe 3-4 times in my life. Where we live is too wooded for them as they prefer more open space. yes they are on the timid side. I recall my late mother saying how more aggressive birds pushed them out.

Very colorful visitors! Unfortunately I rarely get any of those, but I can't keep feeders out past spring because of bears. This bear is probably about 2 years old, but mom comes by too. Bear 2 reduced.jpg

Yesterday I was mowing and when I got near a section of the treeline in back, a couple of robins started having a hissy fit at me. I wondered if they might have fledglings around, so I slowed down and was very careful in case any popped out at me. I did not see any at that time.

However, when I went out later in the afternoon, I saw 4 fledglings. Mom and Dad were keeping an eye on them the best they could, but the babies had spereated, although they stayed in the back yard. This is the 2nd crop of robin fledglings I've witnessed this year. A couple of weeks ago there were babies hoping from the north side to along the front yard. I'm unsure if the parents were the same ones, or a different pair.

Pics from yesterday of 3 out of 4 of the fledglings. The single one was inside the northwest corner of my fenced in area. The other two were outside the south side of that area (about 40' between).

While my cows graze through the pasture, their movement stirs up the grass, flushing out hidden insects like grasshoppers, beetles, and crickets. Its a win/win situation, these Cattle Egrets are definitely opportunists.

Saw 2 immature red headed woodpeckers at the feeder this morning. Pretty much black heads at this stage.

Saw some immature robins in the front yard this week too.

Goldfinches have shown up the last few days. I've heard them around just no shows at the feeder.

Immature redhead. Well I thought I was going to post a picture..... Zoomed in and cropped, now the picture is twice the size it originally was. :hair:. I give up. Was fun to share here, at one point, but that's now passed.
