Chainsaw Pics...

Went for a cut today. Been a long while. Dusted off a 570 Pro Mac and one of the P41’s. Gobbled up some Doug. I will have to make my trips to gather wood sooner than later. Forestry bans pending and drought like conditions already.

 

I also bought a “new” saw a couple weeks ago or so. PO used it sparingly and it was stored well. Threw a new fuel line in it and spun a loop of old semi-chisel Windsor. Runs well. I’ve slowed down with picking up old saws (still looking all the time, though) as they are getting harder to come by in these parts. But, I was fortunate to stumble upon this one.

I have a P39 (I believe) in the basement needing finished. If you know them well, when the time comes, could you help me get over the summit on it? I think I have darn near everything needed. Can't remember what made me quit on it.

Echo XS4910 towards the end when the 400 ran out of gas
Stihl XS400 limbing and bucking
Stihl MS461 with 28" bar was the felling saw

 

What type of pine tree is being worked here?

 

Southern Yellow Pine. Not a loblolly or longleaf, maybe slash. Not sure of exact species.

 

Used dad’s old 50 some today.

Some much needed trigger time. I was thinking of you this evening after supper TJV. I thawed and had my first Claxton dark fruit cake for desert. Bought a 2 pack at Xmas and decided it was time. Very good, I like the dark! Hope all is well with you and the Miss. I’ve really been living vicariously through yours (and others) posts. Wish I was able to work with saws and such that frequently.

A while back I mentioned on a different forum that I would like to find a second Husqvarna 450. Recently a local guy posted that he had been given a Husqvarna 450. Owner could not get it started. Said I could have it if I wanted. I figured I had nothing to lose so I picked it up. Looked like it was in nice shape, motor wasn’t locked up. Saw owner happened to be in forum poster’s shop when I was there so I gave him $20 figuring free was too cheap. Dumped out the old gas, looked the saw over, couldn’t find anything obvious wrong with it. Gave it some fresh premix, put a shot down the carb and after a few pulls it started and ran perfectly normal. I think the guy flooded it. Flooded saws are hard to start unless a person just lets them set for quite a while, and the owner was an older fella who would have struggled to hold the throttle wide open/no choke to get started immediately after flooding. Haven’t cut with it yet so I may learn it has some lurking problem but it sure ran nice otherwise. It is identical to my original saw except without the tool free chain tension adjuster. I’m really happy to get a second saw as I have been using my original 450 pretty hard this summer removing dead ash trees at a local feed lot. Most are 25-30 years old so not that big but there was one row that was roughly 60 trees; probably tipped about 70 trees so far. Takes a while to make that go away. Trying to salvage the easy to get trunks and limbs for firewood but not spend much extra time doing so. Most trees didn’t have that much nice firewood in them anyway.
