Hey all, hope everyone is doing well on our Independence Day. :usa::salute:

Not up to a whole lot of exciting things here, mostly work and hanging out with the dog.
    :pete::coldone:

I have been working on removing a deck the past few weekends, and the darn thing was way stronger than I thought it would be.

I've been in this house since 2010, and who knows when it was built. But a couple of the deck boards still had pitch in them. :jaw:

So, been a couple of bonfires as well. Fortunately I have a magnet wand to get up all the nails.

Finished it up today, next is some drainage trenching, a rock base, then a concrete slab.

Hopefully have things buttoned up by the end of the month. I'm hoping that I can get the solar panel installation done next month.

Getting an 8KW system installed, rated at 111% of current usage. I'm hoping to get an air source heat pump split system installed next year.

I want to finally be off of fuel oil, but I'll keep the system installed and running properly, just in case.

Right now I just got a shower a bit ago, and I'm tanking up on water, so I can enjoy some :coldone: while watching the neighbors fireworks tonight.

It's been hot and humid here. :dennis:
    Pics or it didn't happen.

Pardon the peeling paint. That is compressed cardboard siding. I about ripped it all apart when I pressure washed prior to painting. Everything just started peeling off the next year, and I said screw it.

    Today..

Had to do a fair bit of cropping to fit the size restrictions, but alas.

Enjoy the day everyone, and I'll pop in from time to time. :binoculars:

Best of luck with the solar system install! My 8kw system is about 30% overage, but I get good return via net-metering, and my credits never expire. I also wanted to make sure I had enough if I use the mini split during cold weather. My January & February production are always the lowest months because of all the clouds and snow. the last two Februarys have been under 100kwh. However, my roof pitch is not ideal by being very shallow. Plus, I have shading on the east and south sides from trees and houses blocking the low sun angle.

Was working on the computer this morning while enjoying my first cup of coffee (and the quiet as this was the first time in several days where I didn't have the A/C going) when I heard some crashing noises from outside. Was wondering if a bear was getting into something so I went out on the deck. I didn't hear anything and before I could even start looking around a big bull moose walked by about five feet away from the deck (I have a raised basement, so the deck is one story up). Pretty cool as I haven't seen one come through the yard in several years. I used to have three that were frequent visitors about 10-15 years ago but those were all hit by vehicles over a couple-year period (my land borders the highway going through the mountain pass). I hadn't even thought to grab the phone as I was more concerned with chasing off a possible bear so unfortunately no pictures. Watching that majestic beast walk through the yard (while trying to keep my German shepherd quiet) was a great way to start the day.

(The below pic was from several years ago when this moose was spotted while I was out scouting sites for bear hunting.)

    Fantastic!

There was one in our yard one morning awhile back. No where near as close as yours but deserved all the same appreciation!

It ended up getting struck and killed on a highway shortly after. :headbang:

For a brief nanosecond I was tempted to jump off the deck onto its back. Might have tried something crazy like that back in the day eons ago (especially after a few drinks). Don't see moose as often as the old days between increased road traffic, brainworm, and the winter ticks. Seems like so many get taken out on the road. It was definitely great to see one that close to the house again, especially a bull with a decent set of antlers coming in.

We had 2 1/4" of rain yesterday afternoon right before our party started. Like sheeting rain coming down sideways.. party was still a success

Such a sad happening. Another reminder that life can be a fragile and fleeting thing. My thoughts for their loved ones who feel the pain of their loss! I often contemplate why it is that safe and pleasant times can change so swiftly.

Got walloped on the 4th with the storms that rolled through. 80+ mph winds whipped through and spun off some tornadoes to the north of us. Heavy rain yesterday and today has the basement on its way to being a swimming pool again.
Got a company coming out Friday to give me a quote for some kind of remedy. Others in the area have it much worse, so I guess I can't complain.

Me too. I haven't seen an invitation to Pallet Pete 's table in a long time either!
