I've been spending a bunch of time helping my SIL insulate her new addition, and got another chance to get some more Oak while over there today. Got most of a small Oak and some branches from the large Oak that I cut a few weeks ago.
Had to leave a bit of the small Oak...I'll get it next trip. About 100' straight back is the big Oak. Once I get all the smaller stuff cleaned up from that, I'll go after more of the trunk. I'm eyeing a decent sized Oak leaner near where the Jeep was parked. It's not doing well, so I should take it down. Fall is everywhere around here. Maples are really dropping leaves, and most are about half empty.
Took the tractor back home, and the utility trailer has almost 1/3 cord of split Oak in it waiting to be stacked still sitting in the field. Things are starting to get backed up 'round here. Work at SIL's should slack off in a few days.
I think 2-3 more loads will do me well. Should be able to get that before the snow starts, except I don't want to be out there interrupting any hunters nearby.
Sounds like you made sure you took in the color all round ya... nice time of year to be in the woods...
Good of you to help the SIL with home improvements, also good to see you didn't go home empty handed. That's a pretty load most certainly.. just remember to let it dry for about a decade.
Glad to see I'm not the only one packing wood in the back of an SUV! Jealous of the Oak too. I never find much else besides Ash.
Looks like a full load ! " I hear " Oak is heavy . I vision you sashing thru the woods like a slalom skier, fully loaded with oak, grinning form ear to ear LOL
Well Dave, I was pretty happy about getting that load, but a slalom skier.........uh, no. Couple spots there's barely room to get through w/o hitting the sides. I idle through most of it. When I have the tractor, it's quicker. That small Oak is/was about 9" DBH, and the bigger one is closer to 2'. Yeah Joe, the Jeep isn't the best choice, but it's a pretty gooder one.
Looking good Dave get in and get it out of there. I take it you are recovering more and more day by day
Drywallers can't start for a couple more days, so we have a bit more time to finalize the insulation..........and I can get more Oak. Still get a little pinch every once in a while but mostly all gooder. I'm gonna' take the splitter over into the woods to get the big Oak out. Split it right into the small trailer. That's the tentative plan right now. All my equipment is gonna' end up over there.
