Found on FBM last week. I checked it out and all oak so not for me. Lined up the cut for me and buzz-saw yesterday. Humid day made for unpleasant conditions. Mostly cloudy made for better conditions. Small opening in a side gate my PU wouldn't fit through, but his truck and trailer did. He ended up with three heaping loads in the trailer. A mile from his place made for a convenient score. Quite a bit of wood had been cut and moved since Monday so we ended up with big rounds. Most in the 24" range as I didn't measure. It was a sweat-o-rama, but always a fun time hoarding with him. Looks like a nice amount of wood. Would be cool to see the pics but oh well. We'll have to get used to it or don't let the door hit ya, right?!?!
In a nutshell the trees were taken down maybe a month ago. Tree service never came back for them. They listed on FB a week ago. I checked it out Tuesday and committed then. In the mean time another hoarder (he showed up yesterday and I've met him at a local score three years ago) had cut some and the neighbor, who does excavating, shows up with a monster payloader to move the wood into the back woods. The original tree company had brought a larger dumpster which he filled. Lots of knotty chunks, cookies, rejects etc littering the back yard. First load had some that we didn't even have to cut. He's not as picky about correct length as I am. We cherry picked for the primo logs. The biggest log was bucked into 3-4' section and trying to roll to finish cuts was a b!tch. He should get many primo splits from it.
Please explain for some of us dummies. pickup can't get through the gate but his truck and trailer did? Did your pickup grow or his shrunk? Maybe greased the sides?
My little Tacoma had a couple inches each side , trailer luckily was about the same , there wasn't much room and not a straight shot through the gate so it was close. Really nice wood and even the stuff we did not cut was close to our normal 16 inch length , probably in the 14 - 18 range. Hard to pass it up. The large rounds will produce a ton of nice splits , straight and clean grain with basically no knots should make splitting and stacking a little easier , plus it has all been sectioned up so it is easy to manage it from here. Dragged my splitter out yesterday so I can do an oil change on it and get going on it. I miss the pictures here but yes, it did happen. LOL
It was very tight with his small Toyota. Mine probably wouldve fit but we decided just to fill his trailer since he lived so close by. His trailer is low so easy to load and unload. Anything easier is gooder in my book. Our normal MO is to fill both vehicles with an entire oak score going back to his place.
That's a great score and good times helping each other out. Yes, posting pics takes a bit, but I've learned.
Nope , waaaay too hot for anything. Too hot to even work out in the shop. Hopefully a break is on the way.
