We had a pretty rough winter with a few good snow and wind storms which brought down trees and large limbs throughout the region. Most towns around here have a fall cleanup where residents can put unwanted wood and brush to the street for pickup. Since just about everyone around here thinks burning pine will reduce their home to ashes, piles of cut pine logs are a fairly regular scene this time of year. In just a few minutes of cruising around some neighborhoods near me has landed me two truckloads of pine that will either go directly in my wood boiler or will be split and sold to campers. Pictured is the second load I’ve gotten in the last few days.
The same with pine around here cept nothing roadside. Very common at the dumps I frequent. How long will you dry it before offering for sale? With my shortage of dry bundle wood I was tempted to add a piece of softwood to them as it dries fast. During the Winter I added ERC to some. I have access to a fresh EWP blowover should I wish, but just cut a PU full of cottonwood and have maybe another PU left. CW dries amazingly fast in the warm weather so it may suffice.
This is what I love we are the experts on what you can and can’t burn Like we all know pine is fine as long as it’s seasoned but people talk to a buddy and all of a sudden they are the experts saying oh pine will start a chimney fire
No pictures (I know, shame on me) but I got 3 more pickup loads of pine and have a few more leads on it just waiting pick up.
The central Rocky Mountains are majority Lodge Pole for burning. It's usually someone that moved from eastern US that says that out here.
Great haul, like the rest I like pine as a starter to get the home warm fast and get the oak going properly for a decent nights burn! Nothing wrong with burning dry pine.
At one of my curbside scores of pine, the guy had all sorts of lengths logs, some up to 4-5’ long. I left them. He messaged me and asked if I was interested in more pine so I said sure if it was cut to 16”. He messaged me two days ago and said he dropped another tree and I could drive right to it. This guy actually measured this pine so it’s cut perfectly. Took me 20 minutes to load it. He messaged me later and said he’s cutting down two more and he will cut to 16”.
Two more pine scores this afternoon. One was a nice neat pile by the street. At the other the homeowner and neighbor helped load.
Delivered 2 cords this morning into a lesser travelled area of a town next door. The township hasn’t done their normal spring brush pickup yet and a number of owners had pine at the curb so of course I loaded up. Got about 3/4’s of a cord.
Is that pitch pine? I know there's a ton of that growing in the pine barrens of NJ. I never got any myself but have some close by I'd hoard if the opportunity came.
Perhaps you should push just a bit further and specify what size splits you prefer Definitely would earn you a you suck award! Nice score!
That's some nice scores, my friend. Sure wish you were closer...not gonna cut it to 16" lengths for ya, but we could load all the 8' and 12' logs on your dump truck you want, from the pines galore thread job we're doing. Seems the brothers with the pallet business have slowed way down...
Spent some time last week processing all of the pine I had accumulated as of late through picking up from the roadside to some logs getting dropped off. 16 bins that will get sold out front to campers.
