Last load of rounds and a refurbished trailer

Couple of pics of the last load about a month ago before I rehabed the trailer. Doug Fir big boys that were unfortunately tree service rounds so all 18" to 21" long. I will have to cut them down to 16". No matter, since the older neighbor lady next door gets the cookies after I break them up for her small insert. The trailer sides are 3/4" form ply with hi density overlay on both sides. I replaced the original 3/4" CDX with the HDO when I replaced all the wood sides and deck on the trailer the last time. All wood is still in good shape now so I just replaced all the fastener bolts and T nuts etc. and scraped, primed and repainted. The Old Girl looks great for being on the wrong side of 44 years old! First trailer I ever built so I'm a bit emotionally attached!

 

That will carry a good load! You built it? On an existing frame?

From scratch. I used a 6000 lb mobile home axle with lowboy style rims. Had to cut out about 18" and reweld the axle. The trailer weighs more than 900 lbs by itself because of the thick C channel frame. All the beef in the frame worked out well when I added the small Harbor Freight crane which came with a hand crank winch. I adapted an electric 3500 lb winch to the boom and run total loss from a group 24 battery. I can load the trailer twice plus on one charge. I drive a log dog into the rounds and it picks and swings them with ease with no deflection in the frame.

 

Brad, your tailgate needs a resurrection. It is beyond a restore!

In the first picture the camera angle is distorted not the trailer. Bed is treated car decking . Box is 8' 4" X 4' 5". Note the stabilizing jack at the right rear corner. These pics span several years.

I've had thoughts of building a trailer with winch/lift and log splitter all right on the trailer...pull log up on trailer, buck, then split n haul home

It has to die first. Barely latches on the left and has bungees as back up!

Ive owned that truck for 8.5 years and was expecting to get seven out of it. Ill keep it until the whole truck dies. Maybe I'll make ten years. For $3900 it doesnt owe me anything.
