New 32 Ton HyperSplit Log Splitter With 6 Second Cycle Time

    I have been looking for a new log splitter for awhile. Over the past 15 years I have had homemade splitters, an Allwood Oak Series 24 ton, Troy Bilt 27 ton and now a 32 Ton HyperSplit. The fast cycle time is a pleasure to split with. I really didn't care for the 4 way or 6 way wedges on the Allwood. It was slow and sheared so much waste. Many pieces had to be re-split. I find with this HyperSplit I can move through rounds quick with less mess to clean up at the end of the day. I made a short demo video if anyone is interested, link below.

    I didn't see a filter on it for the hydraulic fluid. Is there one?

    If using the standard accepted second (1/60th of a minute), no way that's a 6 second cycle time splitter. :rofl: :lol:

    I was puzzled by the six-second claim, too. I realize he's splitting and they're typically rated by unloaded cycle speed, but even the return stroke which has no load takes almost six seconds alone. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

    I timed it after I made my comment, and it's around 7.5 - 8 seconds out and back splitting a piece that didn't slow it down. Admittingly, faster than it looked when I first watched it, but definitely not 6 seconds.

    I thought it would be dangerous fast with such a big pump but it looks like a normal speed machine. I do like the big H on the bottom and the full beam design.

    I ran across (thanks to the YT algorithm...lol) another video the OP uploaded on YT.



    I wanted to share it here because my County Line 40 ton had the same issue. It has the same style of beam as the OP's splitter. It was frequently getting pieces of wood falling near the carb. At times the debris would overtop the raised edge of the beam and fall onto the motor. This past spring my throttle went goofy on me causing the RPM's to scream, for a split second I thought the engine was about to fail. It then dawned on me that a piece of wood probably got stuck in the carb linkage causing the erratic RPM's. I immediately killed the engine and took things apart to find that's exactly what had happened. During a rainy day I came up with a couple sheet metal shields to protect that area. My splitter has a 'U' shaped tubular engine guard, so I was able to use that along with a hole already on the beam, from that tubular guard, to mount one of them. I just had to drill some holes into the tubular guard. The shield over the fuel tank is removable by using some of that industrial heavy duty plastic adhesive hook and loop stuff. So I just have to pop off that shield when I refuel. It works very well. It's not heavy duty by any means, but it just has to protect that area from all the splitter trash that gets pushed back onto that area.

    Here's a couple not very good photos I just took. My splitter is cleaned up and tucked away in the corner of the garage for the summer, so I did what I could.

    OP, you may want to see if you can either make or buy that tubular engine protector for yours and do something similar to what I have done. I think you'll find out that debris will still overtop your guard at times. I know it did for me. Plus I don't foresee that duct tape last too long. With how I do my splitting, I split an ATV trailer's worth (about 10-15 minutes) and then shut the splitter down to unload/stack the ATV trailer and then start the splitter back up and resume spitting till the ATV trailer is full again. Rinse and repeat. I clean up the beam behind the wedge every time I shut the splitter off to stack. So I'm essentially clearing that area every 10-15 minutes and I still got debris that would fall into the engine area.

    I'm sure the "6 second" rating is a theoretical/calculated time, based on specs...in the real world there are efficiency losses in the pump, lines/fittings, and even the cylinder...so even best case scenario real world times will be maybe 5-10% less than calculated...or worse on a poorly designed machine. That and sometimes (most times?!) the offshore built splitters are just falsely rated.

    That thing sure is working hard just to pump fluid. You can hear it really lug on the return stroke. 23 gpm through 3/4” lines is crazy. The return flow is WAY higher than that. That machine should have minimum 1” lines, all 45° high flow fittings, and a dump valve for the return. I wonder what the fluid temps are after 30/60/90 minutes of running?

    It looks like a rebranded chicom unit with a bigger pump and lines. As stated, it’s not a 6 second cycle. It would be if the lines, valve, and ports could handle the flow. There is a functional limit to gpm on log splitters where the cost to go faster goes up exponentially. That limit with 3/4” lines is around 18 gpm. More than that requires more hp, bigger lines and ports, high flow valve, dump valve for return, and heat management.

    I agree. My 40 ton 9.5sec CountyLine is the same way on the return stroke. Mine has a 25GPM pump but has a 26" stroke vs the 22" the one in this thread has. My wedge seems to move slightly faster, but it may not. I know mine does have a 9.5 sec cycle time, actually a little faster, at least it did when it was new when I timed it. In the video below I'm coming up with sub 9sec over the full stroke.

    As far as temps, yes, the fluid would get very warm with continued use in warm climates. I have temp strips on my cylinder and aluminum filter housing that I keep track of. Like I mentioned above, I split for 10-15 minutes and then it's off for 30-40 minutes while I stack. The warmest I've seen temps on my filter housing (which reads higher than on the cylinder) is ~140°. This is running like described in ~70° ambient temps for most part of the day. Running it continuously in hot weather would really heat that fluid up to a point that it probably would be considered too hot. With how I split and in the temps I typically split in, my fluid stays under 130° almost all the time.

    This is the result of buying cheap homeowner grade Chinese stuff though. Although my previous USA made Speeco also saw some pretty warm fluid temps when running continuously, which I have done with that one when helping others split. So it's more the homeowner grade stuff which has lower volumes of fluid, than it being Chinese. My 40 ton has a 40qt hydraulic capacity.

    That’s not a bad pile at all for 12 minutes! You’d have twice that if someone was feeding you logs.

    yeah, I cut longer than typical and split larger than typical, so I can split over a cord an hour with how I do things.

    Starting from 2021 through this spring. Start and finished splitting are readings from the splitter's hour meter. The wood split is what I ended up with when I was done splitting. Sometimes, when the weather is such a way, the rounds in the interior of the pile get frozen to the ground which require me to use a sledge to break them free, this obviously slows me down. LOL 2024 was a bad year for that. This year was pretty good.
