It wasn't much and a lot of limb wood, but it is rare around here so I took what I could get. Of course she neglected to tell me what was there was not indicative of the pic posted on FB. But it was my first shot at ever getting any and I was already there so I took it. Man were those rounds HEAVY!!! The big rounds are 3 deep and there are some walnut and elm (according to some of you) rounds peeking out. But all the stuff in front and the limbs on top are the locust score.
Not bad for a first timer. Definitely worthy of a “you suck” trophy I’ve never gotten so much honey locust in one score myself, but have done well in my area getting it’s relative-in-name-only black locust.
Congrats on your first. Always fun to score a wood you've never had or seldom encounter. Yes HL is very heavy. It splits rather easily (to me) with the maul so I'll section them up for ease of handling. Its a common landscape tree here and I cant say I've seen one in the wild. Did it have any thorns? Oh, and be sure to dry it multiple years for optimal btu's, but worth the wait.
Mustve been a hydrid without the thorns. They were cultivated like that for landscapes trees. Here's one I scored last year that had the thorns. Only time I've ever cut one with them. As far as I know I don't think they grow wild in my state. A Thorn in my Side
Nice score! We got a big honey locust last year. We hauled it out in 2 trips, and the trailer was heavy. It does split nicely.

Nice! I chainsaw milled some of a monster hl a while back. Some dense stuff, probably won’t take it on again.
We run HL on the bandsaw mill but I would imagine it would be slow going on a chainsaw mill. It makes nice lumber, especially the quartersawn stuff. I run a LOT of the crooked stuff through the woodstove here and it generate a bunch of heat.
