We milled up more boards for totes. I got 5 put together today before going fishing with my wife. I’m going to put another bunch together tomorrow. Have to keep busy. This wood isn’t going to split and stack itself… Sure is nice to have the forum working again!
Nice that you can mill up lumber when the need arises. IIRC from previous your previous photos you have a boatload of wood to process too.
It sure is. I have to find band wheel tires for the mill today because the old ones gave out yesterday. Yeah, I have more than a boatload to process. I was going to have a gtg this year, but a death in the family, dealing with aftermath of that death, and eagles nesting right in the yard put the brakes on that plan. Maybe in the fall if things move along at a decent pace.
I really like em and they are cheap/easy to build. The uprights and pallet mounting blocks are 2x4’s, the spreaders are essentially 2x2’s, and the diagonals on top are lath. I rip a pile of 1.5” out of a log and then resaw down to the thickness I need. It doesn’t take too long to mill up a pile of this stuff. I use pretty much the whole log too, because the wayne trimmings get used for spreaders. If you can find pallets for free/cheap, even store bought materials would be relatively inexpensive. I don’t know if ypu even need 2x4’s, that’s just what I use. I might try some 1x3’s next to see if I can get more out of a log. I am using doug fir, so it’s pretty strong compared to the stuff you buy in the store.
We pulled the old tires off the mill today and went shopping for v belts. We ended up using belts 2” longer than listed, and they were still a pain to get on. They don’t run quite as round as we want, but they got the mill up and running. We ended up using 51” belts on the 16” wheels. We used a 1” ratchet strap under the belt to flip the last piece back over and straighten it out. Worked great.
