You actually inspired me to contribute to this thread with my own pics. I’ve had this black walnut Swedish torch/candle for a long time.. let’s light it up and see.
Thats funny. I have a few BW nuggets hanging around the wood yard for a few years now that ive been meaning to burn here, but rarely have a night time fire. I've given some to one of my firepit customers and she liked them. Next delivery there gone. I put them on top of their next order.
burn bans still in effect here. There was only a brief window that burning wasn't banned-we took full advantage of that by burning a huge brush pile. the next one is ready to go.
Started the fire pit to get the charcoal going for the grill. Kept it going for a bit. Burning up splitter scraps.
This thread has kinda fallen through the cracks for me for a while now...but I've been kicking around the idea of getting one of those stainless steel smokeless firepits, have we discussed those yet? I think we'd use it a lot more than the big "built in" pit in the backyard, since we hang out in the side yard a lot more...and I really don't want to move the existing pit...it would take up too much room in the side yard. Anyways, those smokeless pits are kinda spendy, and I'd rather not buy something that ends up sitting around just taking up space. Anyone have any input on these things? I see there are all kinds of different brands and sizes...and some people say none of them really provide much heat on a cool evening, unless you want to stand right over top of it...hmmm... I could be convinced to DIY something too...maybe... Eric VW know of anything cool? I know you used to fool with rockety stuff...
Washing machine tub. A couple years back on one of my minnow trapping trips, I drove past a washing machine tub that someone had thrown out in the woods. Yeah, that still happens around here from time to time- I should have looked at it to see if it was in decent shape for a fire pit. Next time I went through the area, it was nowhere to be seen. Someone must have snagged it. I don't know how durable they are.
I could have probably had as many washer/dryer tubs as I wanted for free up til recently...my retired former coworker collected scrap to take to sell to the local yard...but sadly he passed earlier this year. I have been kicking that idea around though...many it them are stainless steel now, should last a long time.
Fire started and left going for a bit. Got the charcoal going for a steak. Mixed splitter and framing lumber scraps. Wind had subsided enough late this afternoon. Gusting to near 50 MPH.
There was a thread bout cutting firewood for them. There seem to be a bunch of makers now that SOlo seems to have sold well.
Burn bans lifted but the winds are too high/variable for my bon fire already built 20’ circle 10-12 feet high..
