The demand for more and faster technology is getting crazy.
In our county, there is a small center on a dirt road a few miles from our house and a big one in our industrial park, they had to install a separate powerline just for it, I've been told it uses as much power as the City of Sandersville.
Now on the other end of the industrial park, the are doing site prep work on a HUGE data center.
I understand the sites pay the most property tax in the county, probably why it's been allowed.
Here's the video I made of the site on my way to work this evening.

I don't understand what I know about these things. That is a lot of land being tore up.

Good farm land in many cases.
And taxing the electrical grid, and water supplies...just so we can have better AI...sounds pretty stupid to me.

    It's a double edged sword.

worse than double edged sword , destroys water supply, alters inviroment. raises your electric rates, over taxes the grid, taxes - the muncipalities give away so much there is no gain and actually cost you more in the end on your property tax , only provides a few jobs after constructed. then there also a noise problem, big power lines - elrctro magnetic radiation and i likely missed a few. haven't seen any reports on these that are not so redacted that they are unreadable.

My question is where is all the electricity coming from? With the push for electric cars, heat pumps, electronic gadgets and computer demands, the demand for electricity is unreal. Our province depends on hydro electricity and with drought conditions happening now, even that is borderline.

I'm guessing that part of the acreage might be dedicated to a solar farm, with a battery room to store for overnight needs.

Not completely off-grid, but makes for a good talking point.

The electricity is the biggest hurdle. They need to provide their own power storage to make them make sense.

The pumps that are used, in many of these, are made by my company that I work for. I'm well versed on this topic and can speak from experience. And no, I'm not an engineer. Lol

The data centers have arrived here too:headbang: Seems the county council has been lying to us taxpayers and not been transparent about the industry that is moving in. They also approved a FILOT (Fee In Lieu Of Taxes) as incentives for the danged projects. Going to strain the electric capacity big time and guess who will get to finance the new power infrastructure……yep, we the taxpayers. What a load of chit!

The town a few miles away from me just denied the construction of one. I assumed they would pay off the town commissioners and build it. The $ spent to supply power will inevitably be passed on to the customer, just like everything else. The ones around here are next to a water source.

And get a tax abatement for it too! That's the thing that is sneaky about this stuff...you move in here and get tax discounts, use more than your share of the resources/infrastructure, but the repair/maintenance expenses of such are passed on to residents in a much greater portion than they should be! But but but jobs, n stuff...ok, maybe a few, but the community as a whole gets the shaft!
That would be unusual if so...

I have a LOT to say about this, but you'll need to find me somewhere else to hear it. This issue goes from 0 - politics in under 4 seconds.

I don’t really know a lot, but they are building quite a few of them around here… and I know of a couple that were turned away too.

They are building one about 45 minutes south of me that is big enough to justify it's own natural gas power plant.

It's better for me not to involve my views on that stuff in this arena of my life. Don't even want the association. Frankly I got lots to say about lots of stuff these days. But then, so does everyone else. Will say that much of what is going on is not helpful to those affected.
