I did read the pickaroon thread, maybe that’s next for me. I couldn’t get this canthook out of my mind, so I bought one today. I went with the 48” one over the 60”, should be enough, It was $125 + tax. Part of this ordeal is the quality tool aspect, like when I bought a few USA made ‘Wright’ adjustable wrenches not long ago. It’s not that the cheaper Chinese version wouldn’t work, in most instances. There have been times cutting when it was difficult or impossible to roll a log by hand, now I have a tool. Not sure what I can find for secondary uses, I’m all ears. I bought it from ‘Northern Woodsman LLC’, they have a local office but seem more of a net seller.
I hope you got these adjustables. Their new ones are from Spain, like almost everyone else's. The former were forged by Ridge Tool for Wright (and Proto, no idea why it ceased). I used to use ajustables daily and these ones are superior to Crescent's old USA version. Way less slop.
Yes, my Wright crescent wrenches are older, the price also reflected quality. I had a wild hair this morning, added a 30” Logrite pickaroon to my shed. I mail ordered from Gemplers, showed in stock. I did get to use my canthook today, rolled a large sugar maple log to cut the other side.
If you look at the pictures from Adam's GTG you will see pics of them. 3 being used no issues. I also have the 60" it's not just longer but is larger in diameter. Not comfortable to use as you can't wrap your fingers around it.
I was given a 60" Woodmizer log lift/cant hook a few years ago. It came with the log lift foot which i i installed and likely will not remove. I had borrowed a friend's 48" TSC cant hook/ log lift for a few months. It is very useful, however another 12"is much better when it comes to leverage! These are made of steel and are heavy! The ability to lift or roll a big log saves so much time when cutting firewood!
