Last time I saw one a few days ago it was almost fully molted. Saw my first rose breasted grosbeak yesterday morning. She put he hummingbird feeder up last week. I thought too early, but heard the weatherman mention they had been sighted in CT in recent days. The downys quickly took it over once the suet was gone. Watched these cowbirds yesterday. 2-3 males vying for the females attention. Cowbirds exhibit parasitic behavior. Females lay eggs in other birds nests.
They're kinda funny to watch fit themselves where they can reach the suet. This one has a foot on the suet cage and the other on the roof.
Correct! Here's their call. It always reminded me of a toucan or one of those rainforest birds in South America.
Youre so lucky to get them at your suet. I see and hear them around here on a regular basis, (saw one close up last week) but never near the feeder or suet. I agree with you on their call. They love all the dead trees behind my bundlewood shed.
Definitely blessed. I'm pretty sure this is the first year I've seen them on the suet. Years ago I remember standing outside listening to them and determined there were two pairs here.
Same here. Our first two of the season. She happened to be washing the outside of the window while one zipped in to feed.
Finally got a pic. Dunno if its the same ones, but since they first became regulars a few years back they have returned every year.
