Made a trip today to drop off some brush. I did a little exploring on the backside of the pile and found some rounds…BIG rounds. I walked over the trailer office and asked the guy if I could take some. He gave me the green light and said they don’t want people getting hurt taking stuff. So note to self…ask. So here’s what I rolled up to. Yeah, I wasn’t going to be able to heave most of that into the truck. But! There were a few I could get. If you look to the left, you can see the backend of my Ridgeline for scale. Here’s what I ended up with: My best guesses: Oak, two cedar rounds (must have been a big Cedar!) Maple, cherry and no idea on the boneless/skinless ones. They had some heft, so some denseish hardwood. Oak logs (stuff below it is what I already had:
Lucky you. When I was there back in the Fall, they said no scrounging. Looks like oak and maple on the BS logs. Nice grab! I always cringe when I see big cedar cut up. Once you've seen it milled you'll see what I mean.
Seriously…that would have made some nice boards. I’ll probably run it through the splitter and make some kindling out of it. The batch you gave me awhile back was fantastic for getting the stove going; especially when stone cold.
Thanks! That big Oak round was brutal! I barely got it up on to the tailgate…head to take a breather and then get it up into the bed.
