So as many of you know I process a lot of tree service wood. Most of it is pretty good size wise but unfortunately I have to take some bad with the good. Yesterday was a good day to deal with the bad. Had quite a bit more big ugly stuff I didn’t take pictures of.
Nothing worse than a BIG ugly. Do you chunk down the gnarly ones for OWB chow? Nicer ones get split? Headed to my Disney cut this week as he has some chunklies for me to work on besides some other logs. Hopefully not a lot or real bad. Ill post pics if I remember.
Big logs! They’re fun to work with once in a while. Not sure I’d want to process them exclusively though.
I find no fun in them ever but I also probably process at least 20-30 cords of it each year on the conservative side.
I don't noodle much. The tw6 has a log lift and 6 way wedge. The lift is rated for 500 pounds but will pick up more.
That oak round looks decent to me. Lotsa center wood. The other one is... misshapen... I just got 10 ft 32" dia black locust delivered (and a lot of 16" BL). Heavy suckers, and the bottom is oddly shaken. But I only process one 20 yard truck per year.
I've always sortof assumed that they cut them at unusable lengths on purpose. Could never come up with any other rash explaination. They all know that a 25" round ain't going into most normal burners and that half of 25 is 12.5 which is way short for most burners. Maybe their 'firewood' is meant to go into a pit? It wouldn't take any more effort for them to cut the pieces somewhat uniform, me thinks. Other theory is that they do not care what how so long as it is a 'moveable' piece.
