I definitely don't agree with the conclusion, but it doesn't matter. IMO all you are saying is you bought a truck that suits your needs...what if you needed to bring home 20 pallets that weighed a ton each? You would need a bigger pickup with a trailer or a tractor trailer that is 50 foot longish.

Great that you love your truck, but reality is that most folks can get by with a Maverick or a Ridgeline (Eggshooterist).

I drove an (now antique) Blazer for decades, driving/parking during Christmas Sales was a kick! Turned on a dime, could slip into a parking space coming/going/reverse, whatever. Plus is was old and not pretty so many avoided my path

Neglected to mention the healthy horn.

Conversly, drove a 99' F250 stick. Crew cab and long bed. Gave up on parking and went to the empty end of parking lot, and stopped using certain fast food drive throughs lol.

Best heater I've ever had in an auto.

I need water. Was in drought last year then the ground froze so early (November) that rain or melting snow just ran off. Of course, it kept doing that until the ground thawed just 2 weeks ago - after all the snow pack melted. So, starting the year off in a deficit and all I can get at my place I either a 1/8" of rain that comes down in a deluge (and isn't enough to help anyway), or a day worth of drizzle that barely even moves the float in the rain guage.

Unfortunately I don't think I can afford the shipping costs (and do not want ALL of that water you guys are dealing with over there).

That's a great truck. Love those old blazers and broncos too.

I do that no matter what I'm driving.

that's pretty much exactly what I'm saying, or what I meant at least. I just worded it differently than you.

My original post was only meant as a laugh. Someone used a metaphor to make fun of a truck like mine, so I returned the favor.

For a couple years, I only had a hatchback. I had to buy sheet goods in larger quantities and have them delivered, but that car did everything else. Lumber, siding and siding accessories, masonry units, structural steel, pipes, drywall scraps, demo debris, brush....that little vehicle really outdid itself. I often couldn't take a passenger, the interior wasn't exactly mint by the time I got rid of it, and I often did have to make more trips, but the car didn't burn much gas and I like driving.
My great uncle has been using a car and trailer instead of a pickup for years. It works for him.

So you can "get by" with a pretty small vehicle. But so many people buy a half ton when they "need" a maverick, then want the same maneuveability (or as close as possible), that it's now nearly impossible for someone like me to get the best configuration for us. To be clear, I'm not a snowflake who believes you shouldn't be allowed to drive what you want.
But now I need to buy a superduty, and pay for the extra operating costs (and I drive a lot), and that's a little irritating. I'd probably buy the superduty anyway if money was no object.
Or buy a minivan, since that can shut the tailgate on a 4x8 sheet. I believe we had that conversation not too long ago.

Your point about the 20 pallets is spot on. But I don't hear people making fun of semis because they're big and have a huge turning radius. They're as big as they need to be to do their job. And much as I love mine, they're far more useful as a truck than both of my trucks put together.
A 5 ton truck with a 26' box is enough for many commercial jobs, but how often you you see a 50' Load strapped into one with 24 sticking past the door? I never have. I see the equivalent done with pickups all the time.

If you never haul more than a month's groceries and want to bobtail around in a kenworth sleeper tractor, more power to you. But what reaction would you expect if you looked at a fully loaded B-train and bullied it for being so long and hard to park?
Sounds ridiculous, but the discussion that prompted my original post was the same concept, on a smaller scale.

My Superduty gets the same, if not a touch better mpg than my F150 did...and it has a slightly larger engine too. Both ext cab 4x4, but the SD is a 8' bed, the 150 was 6.5'.
When I bought the SD I was looking for a SB, but it is handy having the LB, and I don't find it to be terrible to maneuver...but it's not my daily driver though either...

What engine is in your 250? I'm pretty impressed with the mpg my 150 gets, especially seeing it has the 5.0.

While most can get away with, and only need a Maverick or Ridgeline, there's always circumstances where you'll need more. There's tradeoffs to everything in life. A friend bought a new Ridgeline about a year or so ago and was happy with it until he learned that the pontoon boat he and his wife want is going to max out or be over his towing capacity and not be as much truck as he thought it would be. Honestly though, he's not a truck guy, and really not a boat guy either. I've had him out several times in my boats. Some just aren't. I think he needs to stay in his lane. That Ridgeline does everything he needs, aside from the boat he doesn't.

Its the 5.4, (2V) last year for it, so it was "the best one" to have...my 150 had the old school 5.0.
My daily driver is a Honda Odyssey, which honestly works just as well, if not better as a truck than a Ridgeline would (IMO and IME) it'll take 8' plywood and still shut the rear door...12'+ lumber too (one end sitting on the dash) plus it has trailer hitch n roof rack, so that makes for other options too. Might not be a "cool" vehicle, but it is VERY functional, and pretty economical to drive too!!
I'm sure eatonpcat will recall when I showed up at his house with large rolls of EPDM rubber roofing on the roof rack.

My wife owns Ridgeline my sister the Odyssey.
I don’t disagree, my opinion is ridgeline is the van with back cut off. with the exception of large appliances and garbage, Prefer Ridgeline other wise doesn’t matter as Mileage handling comfort are same

Not as long as you think, because that water eventually goes out the St. Lawrence seaway..
Granted the water has to go through a couple more lakes and Niagara Falls first.. But eventually it will pass within 60 miles of my house
