Yikes! I saw what a tornado can do to trees first hand after we had one go through Gloucester county NJ few years back. My brother in law and I helped his local church do some storm damage cleanup (and o yeah and I scored some wood ). Never seen anything like it, trees thick as can be twisted like that. We all know how strong trees are and for something that powerful to twist them like that is mind blowing and scary as hell!
I did a scrounge on a tract of about ten acres a few years back and it's dangerous. Was a twisted and hanging mess, lots of widow makers up above. Had to choose to leave some dandy trees cuz too dangerous. But I got a few loads out.
June of 2015 we had a microburst hit the area as well as May 2018 & August 2020 small tornadoes do the same. Being a heavily wooded state it was amazing the damage that was done to trees. The 2018 one hit a couple state parks and it was amazing the damage done to the pines. One looked as though it was corn field with the tops cut off. Im still scrounging black locust from the last storm. July 1989 had a series of tornadoes hit the state. One hit a virgin growth forest in NW CT. I have visited that site a few years ago and some of the broken trunks still stand. Heres a link to that.
