We also get to watch the planes every spring when they are treating woodlands for mosquitoes. Once we even got to see one during a GTG here at our place.

We see helicopters flying over that they use to resupply some of the Appalachian Mountain Club remote huts but the majority of helos we see are Blackhawks flying in to perform another mountain rescue (or recovery). One of their staging sites is about 15 minutes from me.

These guys are often buzzing right over the house while conducting training in the mountains.

Maybe it is the kid in me that has always enjoyed seeing planes in the air.

    Great question!
Each competition has a certain diameter of wood that is used.
We peel the wood like this to be sure each block is turned down to the exact same size, making for a fair competition.
Additionally, the edges on chopping axes used are very delicate so removing the bark is a necessity.

Our previous home looked over the city, there was the coolest little bright yellow plane that flew more like stunt pilot though he was spraying mosquitos. It was wild, he'd dip down below rooftops than emerge going practically straight up a couple seconds later.

IMO, those should be grounded. So many service members have been killed senselessly. Two thumbs down.

I can understand the sentiment but I think it's risk versus rewards as with so many 'contraptions'. Other than helicopters, there isn't anything else that provides the same features. I mean the Harrier had 143 non-combat crashes/accidents just by 2002. And the CH53 has claimed a lot of Marines and sailors in crashes. We have to get the job done somehow. With that being said, these were just starting to be phased in when I was retiring and I was glad I never had to ride in one. I had enough close calls flying in 53s and 46s. The first thing we always did when getting in helos was to see if any hydraulic fluid was leaking. If it was leaking, you were good to go.

Today i got the belt replaced and deck aligned on my big Husqvarna rider. Only have one leftover part after replacing the mowing deck.!
Saturday i spent the day as a judge at the National History Day state finals. My category was Junior exhibit. Amusing to judge the work of three middle school girls who researched the battle of Gettysburg. Their diorama included body parts in the trees.

They had developed a dislike for Robt. Lee by the end of their task.

Came across some people making fun of extended cab long bed trucks. Some complaining about (and greatly exxagerating) their turning radius, one compared their profile to a weiner dog. My response:

"All the mall crawlers make fun of them till they want to build a deck, and they're trying to tie their 16' boards into their 5.5' bed. I'd rather a weiner dog than a Yorkie with a baseball bat tied to his tail."

what's funny is, many people complain about the turning radius of a long bed, then when someone mentions the lesser cargo capacity, they suggest using a trailer. Um, I have both, and the long bed truck has a much tighter turning radius than the short bed with a trailer attached. [IMG]

It's cannabis day here in Massachusetts.

We have parades, a marathon, the Red Sox play in the morning so they can party all afternoon and some schools start Spring Break today.

I've put 16' lumber in the bed of my short bed truck. Drove about 10 miles with it too. You just have to know how to do it.

Our state is one of the few that no form of cannabis are legal. We lose a lot of revenue to neighboring states.
