Had a random person message me who knows I sell firewood. Sends a picture of his neighbor who stacked up Goldilocks oak at the street. I swung by today and in under 15 minutes had about 70% of a cord loaded up and was on my way. Nice little afternoon score.
I cut some wood for my sister, trees down or damaged. These are ‘Jack Pine’, not the best firewood, to far for me to take. Most put at the curb will go, nice for camping fires, big ones split, dried a little.
Gotta like easy scores like that. Getting to be my MO now to park close to buck. What is your normal MO if cut to the wrong length? Edit the logs at your yard? Mix in? I had a nice BL score like that I could've hit last week. Pre cut, park and load. Luckily the guy PMed and said most had just been taken as it was close to an hour away.
I’m very particular about length of cuts and my customers appreciate that. 16” is the goal. Shorter than 14” and longer than 18” are set aside and sold separately.
So the same guy who messaged me before says his neighbor cut a whole bunch more oak and there's at least 2 cords at the street. I WAS planning on taking it easy after work today.
I hate when an unexpected score pops up, but good wood waits for no hoarder. Hopefully the rain holds off for you. Handling wet rounds not fun.
I also hate when people do half the work for you too.... LOL. In all seriousness, I was planning on taking it easy after work today because I have been going strong cutting and splitting for the last 5 days and I've been running on top of my normal workouts. Did a 4 mile run Saturday morning and a 5 mile run Monday morning. My body is saying take it easy but now my mind is saying, suck it up buttercup!
Im still recovering from my one mile run. That was over 20 years ago! All kidding aside, all the power to ya Joe. I've never been big into any type of physical fitness. Figure I get enough daily as I'm always on my feet. Wanna see pics of course.
The good and the bad…the good is it’s all oak right along the street of a dead end neighborhood. The bad is a lot is cut 20”-22” or so and some longer. 16” is ideal for selling but I do have people with bigger fireplaces who want longer wood so it’s still marketable. Loaded this up which is just shy of 2 cords in 45 minutes. Was supposed to have a helper but he cancelled on me. There is still at least another cord left. Some of that is on the bigger side which I don’t plan on loading myself.
Agreed on that. The bigger stuff is probably 18" in diameter which at 16" long wouldn't be terrible but many of them are 20"-24". I would have loaded them up in my past but I know better now. My pride says go ahead and do it. My brain says don't be stupid. One thing I've learned as I've gotten older (and I've been a slow learner) is your brain looks out for your whole body while your pride only looks out for your ego.
