Hello Gang, most of you seen my other "street" drop off work ;) but once in a while I gotta go fend for myself. Our gun club had 6 blow overs and snapped trees this winter from Ice and wind we had to remove. 2 were right in our road, others in target ranges. We share the trees up and anyone who wants wood and comes out with their saws get's some of the bounty. I've been mostly off line this past week and here's why. We had this beautiful Pin Oak snapped about 1/3 of the way up and it crippled the tree, no way possible for survival. Now that we had some dry days and some hands, we sliced and diced and shared it up. One fella only wanted small stuff for his outdoor fire pit but he stayed the two full days working with us. It was in a patch of briars and stickers!!! :zip::pain::mad: Myself and another fella took the most of it, I let him pick what he wanted, we loaded up his truck off he went. I got the clean up, so Chrissy and I have been hauling for a day and a half, just finished up this morning. I'm hoping to get a cord from it. 103_0886.JPG 103_0887.JPG 103_0888.JPG I hate to see beautiful trees break like that, but it is "mother nature" and I will be Thankful for it and it shall not go to waist.:)

So WeldrDave are you saying a cord took you several days? Not Nashville numbers BUT certainly believable good luck with the Advil buddy

Yup! It would have been about a day less if I was 30 years old and not smack in the middle of some woods briars! :eek:o_O:picard:.... Lucky I'm fat and didn't feel to many of those damm thorns..;). I did drop my saw in the brush walking in and had to fish it out, tore the hell out of my sweat shirt and ripped my sweat pants! Good thing I wasn't "Commando"! :binoculars: I'm also Thankfull there wasn't any ticks out, boy I hate those BAST@RDS... If it were late May, I wouldn't have went in there for the Tree. ;)

Nice to have multiple sources for wood. Looks like the wood you got was decent enough.

Yeah those prickers are no fun. I scoped out a potential dead ash score Tuesday and didn't feel like hacking my way through the thorns to see the top. Seems like a given with roadside wood around here. With none of my wood connections answering their phone or returning calls I may hit it soon as I need to restock.

It was a really nice tree and very healthy, the wind and the Ice took it over and snapped it up about 10ft. Took a hell of a lot of wind. Good thing no to do it but it was enough. I might have not went in for it about 20ft off the road way but I wasn't leaving that Oak behind. I'm just glad it was this time of year instead of June or July, It would have sat there between the ticks and skeeters, along with 90º+ heat. I didn't take some of the big base/trunk, to much to handle. One of the other fellas noodled it up and hauled it off.
Yeah,....  I wiped out a pair of sweat pants, The A$$ and right leg looked like I got into a fight with a bobcat!  :binoculars:Good thing no children were around! :picard::rofl:

True. I barely have room for saws and toolbox at a cut.

He has log piles but all are spoken for. One is the mill pile, mostly pine, one is his wood processer logs (Goldilocks and straight) one where I cut the CW is mostly oak he sells and the last is his burn pile which has some HUGE gnarly junk I'm not touching with a ten foot chainsaw.

I guess we've been Lucky. I haven't seen one yet. Usually late April, early May is when we start. I'm hoping the bitter cold 6 weeks we had here killed a lot off.

I'm hoping this year things go back to normal around here. Most years I find maybe three ticks total between myself and the dog(s), and I live in the middle of the woods. Last year year was like a biblical plague and I stopped counting at finding 100 of those @%$&* things (mostly on me, only a few on the dog).

I got Lymes disease (BAD) back in 2010, wasn't aware I had it until I nearly passed out from 103.4º temprature. I managed to drive myself to the ER and they found a "Bullseye" on the back of my arm, I couldn't see. Tick had already detached, It was a Horrible few days after that until the Medicine started kicking in. My Body and joints have NEVER been the same since. I'll get achy out of the clear blue, for no reason, I've has some Doctors say it never leaves your system and others say that's all "Bull$#!T". My experience, It has NEVER left me... :(

That happened to a neighbor of mine; totally wrecked her life and she's a shell of who she used to be. I'm more concerned now about that Alpha-gal syndrome from the lone star tick that has been spreading up this way recently. One of my former Marines has it and the s**t she has to go through now is unbelievable.

I sympathize with anyone who has had it. :( I had 2 weeks of hell and still living with it. I'm also full of Osteo Arthritus in the joints, so it's interesting on some days just getting motivated.
