The guy from town who buys rounds wants the black cherry I cut up. But his wife starts chemo this week so it’s gonna be awhile before he can pick it up. I think I will just haul it all to the shed and just wait it out.
I went to the junkyard fully intending to cut all day. Well that didn’t work. I hit metal with the 261. But I did get some cut off this old downed oak. So I hand split it at my monster pile. I stacked it on top of some walnut. One can see the fresh splits. Very few I had to hit twice. Splitting red oak is so nice. The weather forecast here is wet so I hauled a bunch of rounds into the shed. I’ll use the hydro with a roof over my head. And cut another jag for the guy in town. white oak and elm I have already got the 261 chain back in order it took awhile with a file but I got er done. Back to cutting tomorrow if the rain holds off,,
I just cut for three hours in the junk yard. The temp dropped 15 degrees and the phone says rain is coming so I bailed. It’s so nice to have two saws again. The Husky needed some attention now it has an mis matched clip but I don’t care. I cut up two oaks here. Here is the pot licking piece of sheet metal that stopped me yesterday. I am usually very observant on this property but in my defense it was hidden by leaves and a bramble. Then I moved to a different area that had 2 oaks on the ground and a standing dead red that had woodpecker action. With Robert’s (the owner) permission I dropped it. Back cut came in a tinch to high on one side but no drama it went where I planned. I got 106 rounds of good firewood out of those 3 trees. Now it’s raining me heading to the shed for some hydro action.
The forecasted storms did not happen. All I got was .1 inch. I should have kept cutting. The saws were running great although the 261 is cutting at an angle now. That should teach me to stop hitting metal. So all I did was split 2 loads in the shed. The oak split OK but that black cherry was brutal. I could not have split the cherry by hand it was really twisted. They do that around here but not all the time. Back in da wood’s tomorrow
Gotta like the easiness of that. I have a few cords lined up to sell green in the next couple months. Rare ill sell just rounds.
A good day was had. I cut down a hickory, a hackberry, and a black locust near my woods pile. Just trying to get more sunlight in there. I re filed the 261 it’s cutting straighter now. Then I hauled and split 4 loads of rounds. The monster pile is starting to grow! Those suckers were heavy had to ramp them in. I backed it in the shed and noticed a casualty. In a recent post I joked about putting the first scratch on the Honda with a screwdriver just to get it over with? Well, I don’t have to. There is a 6 inch chunk missing from the tinted roof I and dont remember doing it. It’s heck to get old.
Normal here too. Stinks about the buggy roof though...that seems like a poor design...hanging out there just ripe for the picking of any passing tree branch!
It was cheap. $130 SuperAtv on sale. It’s a redesign of an earlier model. That “rain lip” was engineered in as they had so many complaints about rain water falling upon your lap when braking. My ATV’s are tools 51 weeks a year and a toy 1 week a year. I beat the heck out of them. Don’t ever buy a used one from me,,,,
It was too wet in the woods to do any hauling today. But I still went to the junkyard. Those 106 oak rounds disappeared! What you say? I had my weapons of wood destruction along so I split them in place. They are not round anymore. It was a good workout but one round beat me. Three strikes and I’m out. Then I cut up some punk elm for campfire wood. And I spotted a small leaning oak on the way out that the woodpeckers were working. It’s now firewood. A good day and the rain held off,,
Glad I got caught up on this thread. Wow, you have been very busy, my friend. Very nice work you have been doing. Yep, sorry about the roof. Glad you didn't christen it like i did the Kubota...the 2nd time...
Wife hasn’t seen the damage yet. When she does I am 100% certain I will hear the words “ dumb arse” It’s on her side I know she will spot it,,,
Today’s project is a maple in my sisters yard 35 miles away in the city of Madison. It seems her neighbor has threatened to sue her “as soon as your branch touches my house”. Sister is rattled. Little brother to the rescue with a saw and limb saw. I have no idea what I am getting myself into. Hoping he is not armed. By the way I hate working on yard trees. Metal.
Hit no metal (or neighbor) on my sister’s tree project. He came out of his house and glared at me I assume cuz I was standing on his side of the lot line. With the battery pole saw in my hands. That my hands were occupied was a prolly good thing for him as his nose or eyes didn’t take a punch. What a duck. Who threatens a 77 year old single lady with a tree branch lawsuit? According to the city website, her street has a scheduled brush pick up on the 20th so the branches don’t have to sit there long.
Glad you got it done without it turning into a ruckus. Some folks just go out of their way to be jerks.
