I picked this up off Marketplace for $110, working but with a few bumps and in need of a good cleaning. Came with a nice cover too. One of the more interesting purchases I’ve made as the seller wasn’t home and was fine with me coming by to look at it and then Venmoing him the money. Regardless, nice guy and easy to work with.

Here’s how it looked when I got it home. As you can see, it was a big grimey! The inside of the firebox had a lot of stuff in. I ended up using a scraper for the bulk of it and hitting the entire grill with a pressure washer.

Here’s how it looked when I brought it home:

    And after a full cleaning:

Here’s what I scraped out of it:

I fired it up and it gets up to 600F no problem at all. However, the crossover tube was not in the best shape and you have the manually light the center and right burner. New burner set was ordered from Amazon for $22 and change. I’ll swap that in this week hopefully.

Here’s the next issue to deal with. There are some dents and rust in the base. Guessing this thing was moved on some stairs or some height difference. I’m going to do a little work with some wood and deadblow hammer. I’ll remove the entire base for this. I’ll also take care of the rust and do a little painting too.

So far, so good and a fun project. Ironically, based on the serial numbers, the same year and model grill we have in VT (which we purchased new).

Looking great! I see a lot of Webers on FB being sold reasonably that just need a little TLC.

I’ve been scoping them out too. They’re really darn easy to work on. And with aftermarket parts, you can have yourself a really solid grill for short money. They don’t really take much work. Our one in VT has had a cover on it since day one and it looks great. Also, cleaning the grates regularly, the firebox and inspecting things goes a long way. So does giving it a good preheat and post cook heat blast. I just think people don’t run them very hot and neglect cleaning.

Looks like new! Reminds me I need to clean ours. What is nice about the Webers is all the parts are available.

The amazon burners and crossover tube are good quality and fit really well. You can see the difference between the old and new. The old burners were actually in good shape. But that crossover tube was cooked (pun intended?). Got these installed, fired it up and the flame looks great. Still have to test it out, but I’m optimistic.

So the base and the uprights are going to need a bit of work. As you can see, two of the fasteners from the uprights were seized in the base. Despite PB Blaster and the impact driver, they didn’t budge. I was able to get the base off because the upright metal was so thin. So! I have enough fasteners where it will “probably” hold. But I think I’m going to add some angle brackets for some additional support.

The good news is I was able to get the dents out of the base. I’ll strip the base down, prime and paint it. So in the home stretch here to so speak!

Looking good! Thanks for letting us know about the quality of the amazon burners. I'lI have to replace mine in a couple of years. I actually want to check that crossover tube after seeing yours.

No problem Dok! And definately check that crossover tube. It’s the reason the other two burners weren’t lighting on this unit. When I pulled the old one out, more chunks fell off. It was in slightly “better” condition before I took it out…but bad enough to prevent the other burners from lighting.

I've rebuilt my Weber a few times with new burners, ignitors, heat deflectors, and flavorizer bars. Like you said, they are super easy to work on.

One of the best things I did to my grill was put on an adjustable regulator. I don't know about your grill, but I couldn't get mine as hot as I'd like it on a cold and/or windy day....and some days it took longer than I like to get hot.

This isn't a project for an idiot, because if you turn it up too much you could end up with a puddle of aluminum, but she's a dang hot rod now.

This thread is timely for me. Have a fairly old but in great condition Ducane. It’s started to not come up to temperature as quickly as it should so I took it apart and burners actually look pretty good but will replace them anyway IF I can find the correct burners. I’ve looked everywhere for the model number and it’s MIA. If I remember correctly was Ducane purchased by Weber some years ago? This is a two burner but just the right size for just the two of us and would hate to purchase a new grill over a couple of replacement parts. It’s also got the rotisserie on it which is nice to use on occasion. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I'd start by measuring the length of your current burners. There are some "universal" kits out there that might work.

Those are solid grills! We had one growing up. Try taking a few pics and uploading them to AI. It could help with IDing the grill.

This is helpful! We have an identical grill in VT and it doesn’t get as hot as the one in CT. Probably a 50-100F degree difference. The adjustable regulator could help that a lot. Thanks!

This has been a bit slow just due to time and weather. I managed to get the base sanded down and primed the other day. Burned out my 15+ year old Harbor Freight grinder. Got a lot of use out of it! I used one of those scotch brite like 4.5” pads. Worked really well taking down the rust and scuffing up the surface. It’s hard to see, but on the left side, I drilled some additional holes to assist with drainage going forward.

Using AI, I bought some Massey Ferguson tractor pain that’s supposed to be a close match. I’ll keep you all posted and provide pics. Oh, I also bought some extra hardware at the big box store to help button things up.

Well, my parts are on order…burners and igniters..with no model number I did measurements and found what I believe to be a match. I will find a adjustable regulator too, have never had to use one before with any of our grills going back more than 50 years but certainly can’t hurt to try

PS..Thanks Skier76 for letting me piggyback on your thread:salute:

You bet JD Guy! No problem at all!

I painted the base this week and I’m letting it cure over the weekend. Came out nice! I also touched up a few spots on the supports that had some rust on them. Hoping to get things all together next week and sharing some pics! The paint matches really well.

Well, parts arrived for my Ducane and spent yesterday evening getting the burners and igniters installed. They work even though not an exact match to the original. Parts were branded Texas Metals but had a “Taiwan” sticker on the box:jaw: The cross piece on the burners were tack welded on only one end and not the other, oh well it’s not a structural part so it will work. Have to pressure wash the grills and such and then clean up and paint the lid then burn everything in to get rid of any oils, etc and grill some steaks

Thanks for giving me the jumpstart to get this accomplished gents!

Made some progress recently! I laid down a few coats of paint and it came out nicely.
    IMG_0147.jpeg

I noticed some light rust bubbling on the cabinet door. I used a wire wheel and some fine grit to remove the bubbling and scuff up the paint. Gave it three coats of primer and I’ll put a few coats of paint on this in the next few days.

    IMG_0148.jpeg

Hoping to have this all buttoned up by Monday and tentatively ready to grill! I’ll take some pics once it’s all done.
