A load of dead ash and Norway maple quarters. Stuff I really don’t feel like dealing with so it’s getting donated to my uncle
I KNOW, RIGHT? I'm just so over looking at these piles of quarters that have been sitting here since mid September. Even if I had the motivation to process them, I have nowhere to stack them until I sell another 3 cords of oak which won't be for a couple more weeks. Besides, either I bring this crap to my uncle now, or next January when the ground is a mess and it's an emergency. I really want my yard back more than anything.
Of course not, just shifting priorities. All I want taking up space is my personal 3 year plan, and nothing beyond that. No more selling after this spring. No more being a slave to keeping others supplied year after year. It's time to focus more on family and the house. EDIT: You know what? This hoarding fetish of mine has become absolutely toxic for me. My life is completely out of balance and has been for years now. Working 6 days a week at an average of 48-50 weeks per year, then spending all my free time building up a huge inventory, only to sell it and feel like I cheated myself and my kids for not being there more for them. My poor wife watching the kids day after day while I fart around in the backyard. For what? A couple grand a year? I can make that at work without breaking a sweat or depriving my kids of my attention. Beating the heck out of my truck, changing brake pads every 18 months. No more. This is seriously effed up. End rant.
Or you could get a faster splitter. Jk I flip flop questioning my life choices sometimes. My kids are all out of the house. My wife has hobbies, jobs, school to keep her occupied. I never enjoyed golf, or fishing all day, so I might as well do something I have a love hate relationship with. I have acquaintances and coworkers who say that’s all Jim does and I ask as opposed to what. Sitting around drinking and smoking. Talking about things you’ll never do and places you’ll never go while shoveling mcdumps down your throat?
Kinda the same boat here Jim only never had kids. Only I've slowly transitioned into firewood for income. I could make a lot more sticking with my other work, but its last its appeal.
Out of curiosity, do you have people that seek out cotton wood or low-quality wood? We cut down a half dead cotton wood in my pasture a few years ago and I should have just pitched it over the fence to rot but I wasted my time C/S/S it.
I do not. The primo straight splits are for my bundle wood inventory. With the extended snow cover and some health issues I was not able to put up wood for three months. This will dry in 2-3 months and I'll mix a split or two in the bundles then. The lesser grade splits get mixed with general cordage and/or fire pit wood. Not something I want a boatload of but the timing was perfect for my needs. I wont sell it in volume for general cordage. Last year was my first large scale experience with it and am still amazed at how fast the stuff dries.
