Put the Honda to work today. It’s first job. Cleaned up my yard walnut cuttings. Got a small jag of firewood. I cut a 1 x10 pine for a divider in the box. Honda had openings designed for that. The buggy passed its first test. I think by next week my woods will be dry enough to really start cutting.
I could not hand split my yard walnut rounds. Both of my weapons of wood destruction just bounced off. Had to hydro them in the shed last night. Ground was froze this morning so I hauled them to my (not so monster) pile in the woods. It’s so nice to have a mirror when on the road. And done. Didn’t even scratch the Honda yet but that day will come sooner than later. I should just put a scratch on it with a screwdriver and be done with it. It was 26F here at 6am so no mud.
Great pics! I miss my Ranger but got rid of it back in 2019 and went back to just a regular ATV. As you can see in the background, not a lot of open woods here so the Ranger was too big for driving into where I needed to go. Easier to get in with a smaller ATV and trailer. Would definitely get another one if I was working on acreage like you have.
^^ If I was to purchase a side by side wider than 50 inches it would create a huge problem in my woods. Most of my trails would have required a major tree removal effort to widen them. It is difficult for me just to cut down a live breathing tree. I mostly just work up the downed or dead.
I'm of the same mindset and have never cut down a live tree on my property. I've never put a trail system in, and so far have managed to be able to just weave through the trees with the ATV (and snowmobile before I sold it). I am considering finally putting in at least a loop trail through the property but only if I can do it without taking down any live trees.
I’ve been slacking in the chainsaw department. We have been busy making some improvements at our cabin but we got it all done. Today I got to the woods. We could not drive any trails yesterday as there were many limbs down from our 55mph wind a few weeks ago. I burnt 3 tanks of fuel thru my 192! Perfect saw for this task. My little mountain goat Honda is getting broke in. I learned a few things about the Honda today. You can start it in gear if you put your foot on the brake. And I feel I don’t need power steering. There is a company that makes a power steering kit. I’ll pass. Then I found a hung up oak that hit the ground last week! boo ya. Of course I had the 261 along and put her to work. Got 22 rounds of red oak will work up the top later. I had done enough so I headed for home. But on one trail for some reason I left a pizz elm right in the way. The 192 had enough fuel to drop it and you all know what happens on THE LAST TREE OF THE DAY. It twisted on the stump and pinched me. No fear the 261 always wins. I used some remaining heat on the wood stove this morning to bake my last coat of paint on a 2 inch hitch for the Goat. I bought it aftermarket and un painted cuz I think the little 1 1\4 inch hitch factory Honda hitch will not cut it in my woods. It felt real good to be back in the woods today. Going to the my neighbors junk yard tomorrow to see how much trouble I can get into.
With an impact wrench, it literally took 5 minutes to add the 2 inch hitch. Done! I am ready to trailer firewood.
I read the towing capacity on the new rig is 1000 lbs. I am sure that will be exceeded in short order. My trailer is standing by ready for action. Men do what men do.
Today was basically a repeat of yesterday just a different 40. The junkyard had many downfalls across his trails. If I’m going to cut up a tree across a trail I may as well firewood it. I got about 7 piles of oak and elm bucked up. Some of it may end up campfire wood we will see. Then I cut a perfectly good black cherry that simply tipped over. No woodpecker holes and sopping wet. Got 23 rounds out the log. The amount of firewood in this abandoned junkyard is simply amazing.
Guess the weight contest anyone? Guy from town wants campfire wood in rounds. I loaded up a poor quality load this morning and weighed it. The winner will get a virtual ribeye steak dinner! oak and elm Contest ends in 12 hours have fun!

That single stacked trailer of oak and elm came in at 960#. I guess those ribeyes are staying in Wisconsin
A guy from town bought the trailer load of oak and elm. Wants another one. So I loaded up another jag. He is paying me $55 a trailer load because it is not perfect wood. And un split. And I took the drivers door and net off the Honda. Easier to get in and out.
