We started splitting Saturday morning, got almost done the the tote above... when the thunderstorm started, got some heavy rain and wind. It lasted several hrs, which gave me time to finish grinding a few chains and other saw maintenance things. Miz Carol watched and kept me company. It finally quit raining late afternoon, so while Miz Carol was making 2 cheesecakes for 2 co-operator's that have birthdays today... I went back to the woodyard and finished that tote... I put the lid on and left it there for now, the woodyard was mush after that rain...
Between work and weather, wasn't able to visit the woodyard Monday or Tuesday evening. Wednesday fared better, Miz Carol had a ladies meeting at church, so I was unsupervised when I got home... Blue Samson enjoyed the exercise.. Didn't have a tall tote ready at the moment, probably stack that on my days off. Still got a pile to split, but making progress
Saturday morning we got the split pile stacked, had more than I thought, almost a tote full... 2 big rounds and a small one finished it up, tried out the new hitch and top link on the tractor, picks it up better
New hitch looks like a winner Jeff. Always enjoy seeing you and Miz Carol knocking it out of the park.
Thanks for sharing these pics! I'm jealous of those logs. Everything looks perfect- perfect logs cut to exact lengths, split exactly so. You do good work.
After a 2 week break from farwood (camping, weather, pine trees), we made it back to the woodyard yesterday evening. We got another 330gal tote of red oak done... Since we got the QA mount done on the countrweight, decided to try this combination out, tractor is very drivable now...
Moved some red oak logs from our place that Helene took down. These were a distance from the processing area, I think the new setup on the tractor works great for transport...
With the grapple and fork setup above, we moved all this wood from a good distance to the PA in 3 trips Had a few rounds left from the previous logs, split those into the tote Then cut some about 14-15" off the ends of the new pile, need those for cross stacking the middle section of the tote. It was a beautiful Saturday morning, so the Echo XS2511T and Stihl XS400 came out to play...got the pile bucked into rounds Time for Blue Samson to enjoy the fun. He said "big or small, I split them all" Got another 330gal tote ready for storage...just got to put lid on it What we have left to split this evening, got 1 more 330gal tote to prep and stack.
Nice! That's just hands down one of the best pictures I've seen on here in a long time. It just nails the image of firewood people out doing firewood things, and there is just something very peaceful about that picture.
I feel like a slacker after reading your post. Of course we just had 7" of snow yesterday with another 6" called for tonight so that puts a damper on things. That Wolfe Ridge splitter of yours is getting a workout!
You're not a slacker, by any means. I couldn't deal with the cold and snow, much less the other things you deal with...... I'm just glad we were able to get this splitter on a good deal, it's finally paid off from the bank. And it has earned it's keep. Had 9.5 hrs when we got it, over 600 now.
All of your posts about all the wood you have been processing has gotten me a bit depressed. I haven't done anything with firewood since last fall and it will be later this fall before I can get back at it. Hip replacement surgery this coming Friday with a good 6 months recovery before doing stuff like that. A year for complete healing. I have to keep reminding myself that this too shall pass. Keep posting pictures.
