Deer numbers thru late muzzle loader in Iowa, this doesn’t include 2 weeks excess tag/high power season that ends this Sunday January 25.

Around 100,000 deer taken statewide, up 1% from last year, down 4% from the 5 year average.

Adams County is to our north, Page is the county to our west & Ringgold is to our east.

I just shot 2 anterless, central IL. I did see 2 shooter bucks, the first no hope of a shot. On the second he was coming my way, then decided to go in the woods, wind was perfect. Thinking back I believe there was enough time for the shot at 100 yards, maybe.

I was trying my new 400 Legend rifle. It did ok, but I may go back to my Knight Elite muzzle-loader. I don’t mind the fiddling and the confidence level is higher.

I have the Savage 110 ‘Trail Hunter”, 20” barrel, kinda over-scoped at the moment, 4.5-14 Leupold. I used my hand loads, win-296 powder, 155 grain Barnes copper bullet. I will admit, my Barnes pistol bullets are light for the cartridge, but did take 5 deer among others & 2 youth hunters. I do plan to go 180-220 next time with the 400 Legend. I’m still doing some evaluation.

How does the gun shoot? I haven't even been able to shoot the one I got in 7mm-08 yet.

    Nice.

    I bought a Ruger American Gen 2 Predator & put a Leupold 4-12 x 40 on it.

Shooting ammo from Bear Creek, 165 grain.

No complaints with the gun or ammo, as long as the clown holding the gun does his job, everything performs as it should.
