With the bad Winter we had here plus some minor health issues in December I wasn't able to hoard any wood. If its dry I could, but deep snow and mud pretty put a stop to it. Worst case of cabin fever I've ever had. Empty racks and lots of room in the bundle shed have me very stressed. No rounds in stock. Down 8-10 cords in volume wood plus the same in bundle wood. Throw in some BL needed too. With it melting and mud season slowly subsiding I started in this week. Have a list of sources. Friend of mine down the street from where I live lets me store a few cords of BL there. He burns maybe a cord during the Winter so I help him put up wood in return. A couple years ago we cut some deadfall in the neighbors woods. These dead ash rounds have been drying since then. In desperate need of dry bundle wood so they fit the bill. Ill replace them eventually as he has plenty of dry on hand. Just under a half cords of splits. A tad past their prime. Most will go for bundle wood. A few punky splits went to cull stack for an outdoor burner customer. Off to my Disney cut for some tulip today. Bundle wood restock the priority. Stay tuned.
That's it Brad, I'm turning you in for copywrite infringement on the thread title Cabin fever to Aspen fervor Nice to see you back at it, so we can all live vicariously through your adventures.
I hope you have a good hoarding season. I’m figuring I’ll need a few “sales still lower than last year” to get my inventory rebuilt to its former glory. “Little by little, a little becomes a lot”
Hoard on and be safe, my friend. Remember a small accident will put you even farther behind. I think we're all a bit behind too.
Soon hopefully if the mud subsides. It actually is on the list of sources I made. The TOH from September going into bundles very soon.
Yeah I wouldn't mind that again. Hard to believe that was two years ago already. Ive seen them around, but just pruning work. Another tree service took down some trees for the neighboring town. Nothing too great and they took them right away. Other than that no large scale tree removal roadside that I've seen.
OOPS! My original title was boring and we know how I feel about that. Feels great to be back at it despite two easy scores (todays adventure to follow)
Hit my Disney source today for some Tulip Poplar. He had them come into the woodyard last August. Put aside for milling fodder as they had some pretty heartwood color, but never sold so firewood they became. Bucked those up, helped him split and he let me split them right into the truck from the conveyor. In ten minutes me and the other guy got it done. Super fast. Still some rounds I'll go back for next week. He has some logs for me to cut as well. Moved all the splits and stacked. Far right bay. In front for now to get good wind and sun exposure. Shed will hold six rows deep. Normally I fill from back to front when I'm keeping up with inventory.
I do recall your thread titles when you mention or bump them. Must be something with the CT crew with catchy threads.
I know the feeling Brad. My plan at the beginning of the year was to hoard at least a cord each month until june. Sounds easy enough, a few hours here and there and be done. Well between work, kids activities, honey do list, weather, other projects and non motivation, I'm behind already. In February my hoarding was The sunshine and longer days are getting me re-energized. So Im hoping to get back on schedule like you
Snow cover my major setback. Lack of decent wood always an issue. It'd be nice to get what I want when I need it. I've gotten rather spoiled by the "ease" of scores in recent years. Schlepping rounds a distance not my cup of tea anymore.
Sales were way above last year, so I feel like I’ll have a deficit next winter. First time I had to burn poplar pine punk and chunks as much as possible. I will make as much firewood as time and energy allows. It’s what I’ll be doing every weekend and on pto.
