More oak and another old tax return. The returns are 50-80 pages all in a Manila envelope. I fold them in half and stick them under a heavy log. I’m surprised how they burn. Initial flames and then burn just like a log. At the reload time they still have some shape and are still glowing red even. Then at some point they turn to a huge amount of fluffy ash so I have to shovel out more often.
14 Close to (but not quite) 10" yesterday. I had to break down and plow. This morning, another storm warning has been issued for up to another 10"
Calumet now over 300" and some worried they wouldn't get any more. Let it come! A dusting of snow is all we got and we don't need any more until November. 29 degrees this morning.
Roller coaster weather here. We broke record highs, now it's 30 ish, had snow that didn't stick yesterday. 28° out now, it was 72° in the house this am after ash and honey locust was burnt last night. Reloaded with a big box elder split and 2 pieces of ash. We're to get a bit of precip Sunday/ Monday. Could be 6" of snow if it tracks wrong. Otherwise it'll be rainy. I put the snowblower away on Monday when it was 75°. It's my fault if it snows. And no, I'm not breaking the snowblower out if it snows. It'll melt quickly
With the amount of snow you have received and must be on the ground, how does any wildlife that isn't hibernating move around or survive?
Roller coaster here too. Went from near 80 and t-shirts to currently 36. Just lit up some chestnut oak with an egg box wax starter.
Same here. We went from 85 to 32 last night. Forecast for Sunday has a low of 21. Wish old Mother Nature would settle down and hustle in Spring. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder in Ok. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
It is easier for the wildlife than for humans. It is hard on deer though (that's why you see so many branches chewed off and flowers and usually by the end of February they are showing it. But they can recover quite fast.
Fired up yesterday, had the day off to watch my grandson. Guess we’ll keep feeding the England’s. IYKYK
26 at the moment. the other day, we dropped to single digits after I had posted the temps. No snow yesterday but it's still piling up after beginning last night. When this one is over with (this afternoon) another system moves in with the potential of up to 2' and high winds. That has power loss written all over it!! Looking back over the last 3 decades, March has been a month of rather big snowstorms, Not every year, but frequent enough to be noticed. But, there was a March back about 15 or so years ago that we were able to drive into the cottage on bare roads (not being plowed all winter-melted and dried) and have a cookout on the deck with sun and temps in upper 70's! Ain't happening this year.
The deer typically yard up during winter. Choosing areas noted for less snow on ground such as hemlock stands, cedar swamps, close to shoreline of lake superior and over the last 0 or so years, urban areas where people will feed them throughout the winter months. Another spot preferred is where loggers have been harvesting trees. Understandably, they are there for the food source as the tips of the trees are preferred and plentiful during the logging of an area. During cold and famine years, when the deer hear a chainsaw start up, you better get out of the way because they'll come a running!!
Low of 20* when power went out Wed night. Last night ~35* Besided the two low nights grateful for the unusual warmth coming this week. Wind can kiss my big fat patootie
