    Is that by chance the original oil? If it wasn't flushed out it could be the remnants of the teeth bedding in. Sometimes cost cutting leaves the gears to finish machining themselves.

    I take it that using the down pressure of the loader wasn't enough to put the rear tires back on the ground and back (or push) youself outta there?

    At the angle and as soft as the dirt was, I didn't try. My friend was there with his JD, so we just hooked up a chain.
