I went to N Central IL to pick up a rough cut mower, Mendota. I had one years ago, sold it after a while. I thought I could cover everything with my regular mower. I’m trying to do more at our IL deer lease and our camp property. I do have some use right here at home too. It’s very heavy duty, they gave me a tour of the manufacturing facility. It’s possibly more mower than I needed, but I like rugged & reliable. I’ve had good luck with the upper end Briggs & Stratton engines, this is a 27 hp twin. I didn’t even start it yet, of course not mowing for a while anyway. My son in the military left a 19’ flatbed car hauler trailer here, perfect to carry the mower and ATV together. I should have the trailer at least into mid summer. I actually bought the mower through ‘Off-road Armor’ in MO, they would ship but I didn’t mind picking it up.
That trailer in the background is 19’, allowing both to fit hooked up. In the picture the tow bar is folded. While folded then the ATV wedged between the mower tires I could likely get down to 16’ feet or so with the trailer. I usually have a camper shell on my truck, so ATV in back isn’t an easy option. My ‘normal’ utility trailer is 25 years old or so, served me well. It was powder coated years ago to do a reset on corrosion, but issues again. I think if I go trailer shopping I’ll just try to replace it with a modest tandem flatbed. Once I start towing & mowing, I’ll measure closely to see what I can get by with. Another option is a friend nearby that has flatbed trailers, borrowing option. I’ve used this flatbed a fair bit lately, moving vehicles. First off, a relative had serious car troubles, brought it to his mechanic. Recently I got involved in an estate liquidation, ended up buying a 2014 Mazda Miata at a reasonable price, kinda minty. That came home on the trailer. Believe it or not, my plan is to offer it to my son in the military. Right now he’s unsure about the deal, could be next month or 20 years from now.
