I have water laying in my front yard. I immediately figured it is from something wrong with the well. We did not get that much rain. Someone else just had a thread about a well problem a little bit ago. And I mentioned in that thread that I had that problem before and fixed a leak in the main line from the well to the house. What a P.I.A.! Had to did down like four feet and then hand dig to get the line uncovered and then replace a section of the line. UGH!

Now it appears what is happening is the water is coming out of the top of the well. I don't get that. Hopefully the line between the well and the house is not leaking though. What would cause the water to be coming out of the top of the well? Is the pump running when it does not need to be? :startled:HELP!

I believe there is a connection between the pipe to the house and the pipe going down to the well called the "pitless adapter" that may be leaking. Can you take the cap off of the well pipe and look down it. Good luck!

I wonder if the flexible line from the submersible pump is leaking. Filling the well pipe and over flowing it at the top. I'm going to pull the cap off and then I guess I will pull the pump all the way out. I think it is 88' or close to that.

If that was happening wouldn't the water flow back down in the well and not be pooling on the ground?

How old is your piping in the well? Do you have a pitless adapter or a sealed top cap? If its coming out of the top of the well then your well piping is done. I did a complete over haul of mine 2 years ago. My in well piping (plastic) was near the end of its life. Best way to handle this job is getting a well driller in the area to service it. They have the material and equipment to pull the pump and rebuild it top to bottom. If it is leaking in the yard then replace ALL the piping across to the house. Fixing a section @ a time is nothing but a PITA. You don't want to be doing that in Dec or January.

I just took the cap off the well. I was wrong. The water is not coming out of the top of the well. We have some type of plants around the well and it just looked like that I guess. Now that I have the top off I can see the water is actually coming up out of the ground right next to the well. So the power wire on on the side of the well pipe is protected with a piece if small plastic pipe right up to the underside of cap. The water was being forced up that little pipe and it was coming out if where it ended just under the cap, does that explanation make sense? Here is a pic or two.

I think it is the line between the well and house leaking right next to outside of well pipe. I'm thinking of firing up the backhoe and getting it done. It's either do that or enjoy the day and do it tomorrow when everything is open. Probably only need things from Lowes though. And they are open today.

The backhoe is in position. I'm going to stop and bring some wood in first though. Get the boiler going. It is kinda cold, wet, and crappy out right now and the boiler and tank are coming down in temp after the showers.

Good luck Gasifier, keep us posted. Like Rottiman said, at least it isn't the middle of the winter.

Thinking of that well pump wire as well. Power is turned off to it but I don't want to be hitting that and then replacing that. Ugh

It just started with a cold rain. So I put the backhoe away and will wait until tomorrow.

Now the sun is coming out.

That's it. I'm taking it easy today.

Definitely wait until tomorrow when you can access to whatever you need. I'd be looking @ some sort of protection for the wiring while you have the trench open. I would replace the line if it is more than 10 years old. Sounds like you have a leaking coupler or elbow @ the pitless adapter. Also, while you have the trench open think about putting a inch or two of styrofoam insulation on top of the water line before you backfill the trench. That way the frost will not get down to the waterline which prevents heaving of the line or a rock punching the line from frost shift. The styro is cheap insurance for the line.
