I been avoiding processing partly because of all the snow on logs and rounds. The party will continue soon though, regardless.
Kinda the same here. I have some splits to move and stack should I wish to shovel. I need to pull more dry splits for bundles so a shoveling I will go tomorrow. At least temps in low 30's. Warmest it'll be for many days.
I'm getting 17 and 20 for highs this coming weekend. We may break above freezing on Friday. I had some gumption to make splits this past Saturday but ended up making a bunch of bags instead. Was gonna split after but the sun went away and the wind picked up turning half pleasant weather into not so much very quickly. I'll have to make bags again this weekend pretty sure.
One of my other regulars texted last night. He wants an order within a week. Im sure one of the pothers will need an order soon too. Ill do a drive by of the two closest in the next couple days. I just brought them an order late last week.
Well, another perfect winter Saturday, so back to the log piles. SSplitting Red Oak that's been around for a few years. Got out the old 064 to give her some exercise. Forgot how much I love this saw.
It's been more of a normal winter this year finally. Ground stayed frozen pretty well. I prefer that. Getting into mud season real quick now though. Yeah I gotta admit I am pretty proud of it. Been a long time coming.
Howdy, thanks for the kind words, both CTF and I are busy. He lives the next town over (107 miles). He’s been doing good last week spoke. We both had a cold spell a few weeks back, we saw -76* for our lows for 4- or 5 days and the highs crept all the way to -72* on day. Preceded and followed by a spell of -60 lows and -50 highs for 5-6 weeks in total. It is good for the firewood business we have not caught up. By mid January to now most folks have run out of their winters wood. Almost no one here gets more than one winter ahead. Like AC said we all burn so much wood not really possible to get years ahead. I stopped counting the cords we go through per winter as it’s staggering. We knew we were getting a deep freeze and we dumped 3 cords by the OWB. And blew through that before the cold snap was finished with us. And we’re parking our 1/3 cord dump trailer next to the OWB and we’re topping it off every other day. Amazing how much wood you go through when it’s 149 degrees difference between the warm 73* inside temp and the -76* outside temp. Filling the boiler seems like a full time job. AC have you been looking for a used firewood processor? We had a Dana built and picked it up June ‘25. All I can say is we should have done it sooner. We’re in the 230 hour range. My son talked me into the firewood game. Now it’s included my wife too. They work full time and all my spare time. I retire from my primary job in July ‘28 and we will kick the dust off and get back to logging.
