Well I got a killer deal on a low hour manual carb 661, only 2-years old (I kinda wish it was mtronic lol)….anyway I got it with a 201t that wouldn’t run with the brake on and luckily it was just a broke clutch spring so I got 2-nice saws for like 700 bucks….the 661 still had the residual sticker on the front by the bucking spikes (which always tells you it’s low hour saw…

I got a 32” on her and I have already buried it in maple, oak and it’s got plenty of power…I got it with a 36” bar but I probably won’t have to use that to much, even though i would say it will run it fine….

Anyway just curious what size bars you guys running on your 661 and are you guys using skip chains or full house….i tried a semi skip and full house square grind already and ran them both perfectly!!!

I got a 28” bar on my 461 but kinda thinking about putting the 25 back on her now that I got the 661….i still love the 461 with that light 28” bar in it she runs great!!!

The last pic where you can see the carb is from me taking it apart to take the limiter caps off so I could properly tune….you can also see how clean it is, I didn’t clean it off in there that’s just how it looked….

I thought about selling it (and a few other saws I have rebuilt), and then buying a brand new mtronic model, but the more I use it and as low hour as it is, I am leaning just towards keeping it…..what you guys think?????

    Heck of a deal!
I'd probably prefer the carb model myself (have a 660/32" now)

Ya I mean figure $600 for the 661 and $100 for the 201t that runs perfect now….i have a few 192t no -runners and realized that they have the same
Clutch spring, so I already had the parts on hand….

I felt like it was a good deal myself…

Did you ever modify the exhaust on your 660???

How long have you had your 661???

I mainly cut hardwoods but had some big silver maple (got a tree guy that drops me off wood in the summer I heat with an outdoor boiler), I cut some of the maple and oak and the first time I used a semi skip chain, the next day put a full house square chain on it….both did great…..

I haven’t done enough experimenting with the skip-full house to give an opinion yet, but I would assume the skip clears chips better, which would have to be easier on the saw in dry hard wood…

You got a killer deal on two saws. I would've jumped on that deal too.

I don't own a 661, but have used its predecessor (MS660) with a 3' bar. Good saw for felling.stumping and cutting big timber, but not something I'd wanna run all day.

I cut PT for a guy that sells wood and it was his saw. My 500 with a 20/25" bar more ideal if bucking for extended periods. Good idea to go back to the shorter bar on the 461.

I run full skip on my 36" bar the rare occasion I use it. Gonna switch to full skip on the 28" when I cut for him. Chains dull real fast there.

I had got a killer deal on a 261c mtronic years back and when it arrived it was a 261 which I opted to keep as the deal was so good. I later purchased another 261c and sold the original.

I prefer the mtronic myself. I've tried adjusting carbs but don't have the patience for it.

That’s funny I got a 261c for 600$ brand new a year or 2 ago, was my first mtronic saw…..

I tried find a problem with the mtronic, but the saw just runs perfectly all the time lol!!!

I do kinda wish it was mtronic, but I have timed my own saws for years so it’s ok in the end…

I have a 661 mtronic and a 660 have 28" and 36" bars and either saw pulls them fine. 28" sushi bar balances nice. I have never used skip or semi skip even on the 880 with a 60" bar.

IIRC I got mine for $375 on ebay back in 2019. It was my first mtronic as well.

I tried adjusting a carb from mfr's specs copied from the internet. (Husqvarna 335 top handle) Spent a good 20 minutes doing it and the saw almost got launched into the woods. Wanted all mtronic after that. Own eight of them now! Beware of CAD! :makeitrain"

3 maybe 4 years. I didn’t notice much difference between the 2. My main concern was less teeth to sharpen.

    damm that’s killer deal….

Ya these days you have to pull the limiter caps to properly tune a saw….

I ran the 661 a few cuts before pulling the limiter caps and retuning, it is 100% to lean open all the way (H needle), that it will let you with the caps on!!

I know it’s emission reasons but they should come from the factory set to wear you can tune them a little fat, in my opinion!!!

The less teeth to sharpen is great!!!

Of course just like with chainsaws I got a Oregon 520 (with square jig on it now and it’s sweet), a Stihl usg, and a Simington 450 I just got (about to blow it up or sell it lol hard to get set up)….
