Stupid question about those bolts in the end of the forks - when I first saw them a while back I wondered how you managed to get the logs on the forks with those things in the way. The "welded washer" comment jogged another thought, though - I guess you drop the bolts down in the holes after you scoop up the logs, and the washers hold them in place rather than them actually being "bolted" in place?

Correct, leave bolts at splitter, go to log piles, get what logs the tractor will handle and return to splitter, Miz Carol drops bolts in forks, I tilt forks down until level or slightly lower, roll logs down to bolts and cut into rounds.
See the other picture with big log, before bolts are dropped in

That makes sense, thanks. From earlier photos I always thought they were bolted on - I guess because they sit so straight and upright. It was your almost-random comment about the washers that clicked the light bulb on for me. Thanks for the reply!

Sorry this took a couple days but I got just a couple pictures of the welds I was telling you about. I can't get to the back side because it's on the loader but you'll get the Idea. Here's a couple shots of the gusset's area. As you can see, they are HIDEOUS!! I am going to write a letter to them with some good printed pictures, The back is just as bad if not worse in some spots. Places in the corners are atrocious! :picard::eek:o_O

I also bought this Fork lifting system from Home Depot!, Price was $82 bucks. I can't build it for that... Sadly it's made in China but it's from a company called Vevor. It seems well made, welds are fine and it's rated at 4400lbs. I'll NEVER max this out lifting logs! :).

I'd send it back on their dime that's ridiculous. I'd be embarrassed to have people see it.

I agree! But for what I paid, it wouldn't be worth the aggravation. Yes, those welds are HORRIBLE! When the weather warms up, I'll run some passes over them. I'll know it's fixed right then...

I can send you my arcair and some electrodes. You can sweep up their welds and mail them back.

So I have one, albeit much older. Because of the taper on the forks you can't get them to stay put. You get it tight and the first lift it wiggles down the fork. Rig up a short chain to fix the distance from the frame and the problem goes away.
