Methinks it will be several weeks before they come up this way. Redwinged blackbirds come first and usually within the first 10 days of March we'll start seeing a few of them.
We've had Robins and Red wing black birds all winter, my wife puts out suet cakes so nearly every bird around shows up. We also have a small heater in the bird bath to they can get a drink. Generally, we'll get a March snow, and it comes hard and fast. Within a day or 2 it'll be back to 50º
Not that some of you need it or want to go to the trouble but, we've had one of these in the bird bath during the winter for 25+ years. It only comes on when the water gets below freezing and I don't think it gets over 50º. it's just enough to melt the Bird bath ice. I know all the hardware Box stores, TSC, Menards, and so on carry them. Ours is at least 25 years old.
68 snow is dying quickly. I am going to move some oak to the house for the cold nights. Blasted through my stack a month earlier than usual.
I was just reading where my area had the coldest January (2026) since 2015. First week of February was equally cold.
WOW! 34º this morning. Pups ran out... Snow and ice is now melting and my yard is getting muddy in spots. I gotta go "cold Iron" to clean out the stove. It's supposed to go to 44º today!
Forecasters are back to the not being able to forecast right. That 30-40 mph wind never got to us, thankfully. And the temp forecast has been way off. Even last night with 21 forecast but our low was 31. Now today's forecast is for a high of 29, but it is 31 out there. They must not look at thermometers or even look out the window.
Sending some of this your way! My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder in Ok. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
Living along the river every fall and spring I see them migrating. When they're "sky high" I know they're migrators. Not the knucklehead resident geese. Usually they're pretty accurate in telling of on coming spring.
The Great Grey Owls should be returning from Capistrano soon. As soon as I start hearing them I will post!
our fields are flooded we have had so much rain the most we have ever had and lots more on the way,we will have to sell the cars and buy boats.
Yeah I've fine through more quantity of stuff than typical, but I had a lot of box elder in the stacks. It will be warmer now. We'll be using less wood. 34° out 71° in. Box elder in the stove.
-8 now but it'll drop a bit more. Between 2 and 3 inches of snow yesterday morning. Upper 30's today and sunshine!
