The better half has been trying to convince me to stop burning wood for the season. I have been reluctant to stop but I decided when the wood I have at the house is gone, maybe a little over a weeks worth, I will stop. I am going in for hip replacement surgery at the end of March and I find it getting more difficult getting a fire going and tending it during the day. I have to sit on the floor for those tasks. I wish I could keep burning, but maybe it is a better thing to listen to the better half. I took care of her last year when she had both of her knees replaced so now it is my turn to be pampered:thumbs::thumbs:

That's tough - been there. The good thing about hip replacement is that the relief from the chronic grinding pain is immediate. There's still a little healing and PT to get through, but you will feel so much better! It's good to get out and be able to get around well again.

Hopefully it will warm up a bit and you won't feel bad about not burning wood.

    Heal up quickly!

Erik B you will feel better after it's all done. A good friend of mine had hip replacement last year, he is really happy to have the pain mostly gone.

It has been a hard winter this year hopefully the extreme cold is over so for you to stop burning it won’t be that bad
I hope your surgery goes well and you have a quick recovery

Good luck Eric. I'll be thinking of you.

FWIW, I've already went through 3 replacements and might be about ready for the 4th. I will say I never went the PT route and think I was better for it. My doctor told me to just get out and walk. I did and within a very short time people who saw me walk said they could not tell I had surgery. I did laugh after the last one the hospital said I had to at least make an appearance in PT. That is because at that time I was on crutches. Guy told me I had to at least prove I could go up and down stairs. Holy cripes, I uses crutches for many years in my life. We got to the stairs just as he was called to someone else and told me to wait right there. Me, being me, after he left I walked up the stairs. When I got to the top and turned around I saw him watching me so I went back down. When he came over, he said I guess you can go back to your room now. lol

Go into this with a positive attitude!

The only PT I have scheduled is before surgery. That is where they look at the walker and cane I would be using and adjusting them to my height. There is no PT scheduled for after surgery. The main thing to do is to walk a lot.

Thanks all for your words of encouragement. Having people praying for a good outcome is very comforting. I will keep you informed how I am doing when the time comes. I won't be burning a lot of wood with the temps getting up close to 50 over the next week.

Too bad it couldn't have been postponed but your health and well being are more important.

Good luck with the surgery and let us know how it turns out.

I’m looking forward to the warmup myself, even topped off the motorcycle battery. Good luck with the surgery.

Sorry to hear that but there will be new challenges ahead, best wishes on a successful surgery and recovery. Our bodies are always reminding us that none of us make it out of here alive.
