Sure sounds like it could be a bug problem. There was one standing dead cherry out here that looked terrible. We dropped the tree and it shattered!

Cherry trees usually don't get big, and if they do, they get infestation problems. I have some monsters (40"+) on my property, but they are all missing half the crown and are full of ants and termites. Strong wind is pretty hard on them too.

A quick bit of research and my personal observations seem correct. The Cherry trees, both indigenous and commercial, in Washington state are smaller and somewhat shrub like trees. The largest normal Bitter Cherry that I have seen was about 14"BH and started branching at 6.5 feet with multiple smaller limbs. Occasionally we will see a Bitter Cherry that is an understory tree that is tall but usually quite spindly as it tries to reach the sunlight. Seeing a straight run of Cherry as big as you got is amazing to me. And it is just a limb!

    Thanks! It’s a 1997 F350. I put a 12 valve Cummins in it back in 2017.

That's sweet. I'll bet your neighbors love you on a cold, early morning.

Edit: Probably my favorite style Ford truck, maybe next to the 50s fender trucks. Love the blue license plate. Sure miss those for some reason.

I don’t drive the truck on our salt covered roads in the winter. So my neighbors get a break this time of year. Lol
In Michigan a vehicle can use a vintage license plate from the same year of the vehicle. Once it is 26 years or older. It never expires too! Thanks for the compliments.

Nice size cherry and nice truck! After tornado and clearing out all broken hardwood and all firs in 2008 I have a lot of cherry; mostly 5 inch diameter 15 foot tall buddy with smokers love them!

Very nice score. I do like cherry. It’s so pleasant to burn, love the smell. Definitely mid grade firewood but I take all I can get. I agree with statements above, that tree won’t recover and is probably best removed on your terms, not its.

That's a nice cherry, and I never pass it up. Though I tend to think green cherry stinks when processing.

I have a bunch of cherry on my property and like it was said, infestation or wind gets them.
My favorite tree stand is on a cherry. Was healthy one year, and next it's dying. Im surprised wind hasn't taken it out yet. Everytime I was sitting in the stand this year, there were woodpeckers on it.

We have alot of big cherrys 20"+ dbh. Still have 2 blown downs I need to finish processing one was blown over rootball and all. I've had a few cherry die lately and they all started pouring sap out of the trunk. Really hope its not a new invasive.
