LOL!!! Wish my tailgate looked that nice. Big chunks can wreak havoc on equipment. At least it wasn't your foot! Making some good progress down there!
Monday morning we got the rest of the rounds split in 2 piles... Green wood for the shed The barkless post oak for a tote... Got it stacked this weekend...a full tote And working on the 6th row ...
We moved the last trailer load of white oak logs to process. I noticed that the hickory and white oak was beginning to lean out, so tapped the pieces back and put 3 cull decking boards across the front Got some bucked, split And stacked, 7th row about done Tuesday while Miz Carol was cutting grass, I decided to buck the reat of the logs...made a good pile of rounds for Blue Samson Split some Wednesday morning We got that pile stacked. Good start on 8th row We finished the pile of rounds Thursday morning... Those bigger rounds turned out some nice splits Added some big knotty pieces to the deer camp pile... We got the big pile stacked Thursday night. 8th row done and good stary on 9th row. I think we have a bit of post/white oak left to finish. We do have more to go clean up soon.
Im liking that better than my chicken wire idea. I picked up a 2' wide roll already unfortunately. Haven't tacked it up yet.
Did find a small pile of white/post oak limbs, so moved them to the processing area... And then got them bucked to 18" before nap time... Hope to split this morning, I think this will e enough to finish this shed.
Started early after work on splitting the pile, Blue Samson was hungry for breakfast... SUCCESS...the 14' long, 5 cord shed is full. Between this shed and the big shed next to it, we have 9+ cords of premium "Perfectly split" ...... white oak and 4+ cords of nice hickory. I think we're on the 3-5 year plan now...our retirement sheds. We had this much left over, we will stack it in totes... The deer camp pile, maybe another tote for them... That's all the regular size white oak we have, still have the monster rounds left to deal with...
Yep, in about 2 yrs I need to load up the dump trailer with some of that "perfect & awesome" hickory and go visit my cuz in TN. Just maybe stop by that restaurant "Circa" and sell them a load cheaper...
We had a big pile of cutoffs that we finally got split into a tote. Set it in storage for a few years, got the correct date wrote on the door below the old date.
We finally started dealing with the monster rounds. Had to noodle them into handling size. Some were straight grain and were able to be split. Other knotty pieces were then noodles to size. This is going to the BBQ restaurant and they can use various lengths....I don't know who cut this wood... Got a few more smaller rounds to noodle, then we will finish with some nicer splits
How far “seasoned” is sometimes is key. I tried bartering apple wood to one of our local favorite que joints. They told me the wood had been split too long for their preference. Heck, I just wanted store credit! Sadly, they closed long ago. Their Que was stellar.
With perfectly uniform rectangular splits like that, we'll all give you a pass on the length discrepancy Lord knows I have my off days too. Sometimes all my cuts are dead straight and parallel with consistent lengths, but other days... It's good that in the end it all gets burned and forgotten about!
