0° feels like -10° I scooped out ashes today when it was "warm" out at 3° above. Box elder on coals, of, box elder I think. 73° inside.
About 22:00 i went out and topped off the heater. and as predicted the steady snow began dropping. Back in front of th3 fireplace fire, watching a what-if video on the subject of 50 US Army Rangers were garrisoned at th3 Alamo when Santa Ana arrived. Spoiler- The outcome would be different
2/64 oak right now and oak and maple on deck. Supposed to start snowing here at 0900 and over the next two days, 16-24+ inches of snow. My sister in Illinois asked me if I was going to go cleanup in stages? I told her, between games and halftime... maybe
10 feels like -1, looks like 3 inches of snow so far. Stove barely had coals this morning. Just loaded up with BL and mulberry. Trying to decide if I should stay up or go back to bed...
Was 8º when I let our Pups out, nice coal bed from last night, got 2 big Oak splits going nice and quick. Still 72º in the room since 10pm last night at nappy time.
16* feels like 5*, snow coming down and not the nice fluffy snow Ice is expected later (actually this might make for some good sledding lol). I grabbed an extra propane container in case I need to fire up the generator at some point. The Fireview struggles to keep up a bit in these temps but it's cruising with some cherry, maple and oak.
3/68, headed to 13! More oak burning. Would be nice to slip out and do some splitting today but might still be too cold. Trying to get a mountain of cottonwood split and stacked to use fall of 26 if it’s dry enough.
13/70 have ash catching, about 5 or so inches of new snow with maybe 12 or more coming. Might fire up the Husquvarna blower soon.
5 degrees outside, 71 inside. Red oak and tulip poplar in the Lopi. It started snowing about 30 minutes ago. I brought in another half dozen wheelbarrow loads of wood just to do something outside for a few. It’s nice and quiet outdoors right now.
-2/66. Boiler kicking on to avoid freezing the radiators. Kid's school is already canceled. Hopefully we get as much snow as they are forecasting. Nothing like a powder day ⛷️. As I get older I think I like winter more and more!
7/67. Too cold for me. The dog loves it. Red oak and hickory. Forecast -12 tonight. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder in Ok. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
-35/74 load of Maple in the Fireview. Started out burning at #1 but had to bump it up a bit to make sure the coals are down enough for the next load. I find in these below zero temps I need to burn smaller loads hotter about every 3-4 hours to keep up. In the evening I’ll do a longer burn but also turn on the furnace to help out some.
