I have a never used handheld blower., a Hitachi RB24EAP (formely Tanaka). This blower has one of their so-called "PureFire" engines" which includes a catalytic element in the muffler. I want to try to make this thing last for 20 years at least, and getting rid of the excessive heat that the cat would constantly impose, I want it deleted from the inside, as well as the internal spark arrestor screen which does not appear removable in the same easy manner as say the arrestor in a Stihl BG55. However this would need to be done, whether that would be via precision cutting it open with a plasma cutter, removing it and unnecessary internal baffle plate(s) that prevent the exhaust from exiting in a straight line, and then permanently re-sealing the muffler via tig welding or soldering, etc. If you are proficient in this type of work and can provide pictures of previous work you have done for others that would be a big plus. Also, I'd be interested in a muffler mod for a BG55 like the one shown here with pictures: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/stihl-bg86-blower-muffler-mod.333659/
With most, dealing with the spark arrestor is common, removal or drill. With more common saws, there may be muffler replacements, I just put one on an Echo, from eBay. The next option is to look at videos to DIY. Even if it’s not your muffle, you can get the idea to open it up some. There are different levels of mods, modest drill hole or going with a straight pipe. After that one may evaluate how much & why, some are more restricted than others. Heck I even did a modest ‘muffler mod’ on my CB-1100 motorcycle. There’s a simple procedure with drilling, gives the bike a tad more ‘throat’.
I removed the spark arrestor from my BG55, that was easy, just unscrew it from the front and rip it off with needle nose pliers. The Hitachi however has a cat, and I wanted that gutted out, not just drilled through, and that mandates precision cutting the muffler in half without ruining it, and re-welding it shut after the work is done. The alternative for me is to pay someone with the skill level of Mastermind or Treemonkey to do this, which is why I made my post.
