We had an incident where the truck was stuck up in one oak tree and the rear axle was stuck in a nearby tree. The driver claimed he was going the speed limit of 35 mph!

I like Weather Underground because it can present all the info in graphic format the includes all the vitals on one page. If you are into graphs like I am this is a great tool. Also, they integrate everyone in your area who has advanced weather equipment and donates their data via WiFi. I don't know the exact weather models they use to interpret and project but they seem to work at least as well as what the TV weather stations use and they are incorporating data from your immediate area so you get a tailored report for your specific location. Pretty cool concept!

I am waiting for every form except savings interest, which my bank calculates within days of the new year and I can download. I did a rough guestimate yesterday and it looks like I may owe about what I paid for house taxes a couple of weeks ago. I hate owing because they find an excuse to enforce a penalty that adds to the check I have to cut them.

That is pretty much the regular timing IIRC (sometime toward the end of January). However, if you use tax software, you can submit and they will deliver it as soon as the IRS starts accepting (or at least that is how it worked for me last year).

I usually wait until at least the end of March...it seems there is always some late arriving document...which I thought they had to have everything ready by the end of January...but I have one investment that sends revisions every year, sometime at or after April 15! They did that last year, I said screw it, I already filed (with an extension!) I'm not refiling

Maybe it was a typo? There maybe should have been a 1 in front of the 35?

Pros and cons to everything. I'd rather have more money with each paycheck biweekly than getting a lump sum at tax time. The alternative is way worse, owing at tax time.

Our W-2's are available now as of today. Su I'll use this cold weekend to get hung and hopefully done with taxes

I use TurboTax. They send it as soon as it's available to be taken.

x2 on TT. Waiting on two 1099's. I do my taxes early. I try to come in as close as I can to even. If they owe me I file early, If I owe them, I file on April 15th.

Every time I owe them money (I think it's over a certain amount) then they make me do estimated taxes and guess what happens in the year I pay estimated taxes? I get almost all of it back. But If I don't pay the estimated and I owe them, then I get the penalty.

I used to use TurboTax but it got way too expensive. FreeTaxUSA has been my go-to the past 3 or 4 years. Just as good/easy and significantly less expensive.

There's some situations where using TurboTax or whatever software you've been using, just makes sense. If you've got an uncomplicated return, you can use any of the programs or there. Sure, TT advertises, and it's part of intuit, so there's that and that's not free. But TT is so much less than paying an accountant to do it. Plus, TT has all of these steps to verify that your taxes are done properly.
To me it's cheap peace of mind.

I use TurboTax as I have several people I do taxes for. To me, the convenience of being able to e-file through the software is great and the review and checking on the submission is reassuring.
