It's 22°F out there tonight with 2 mph winds. Pretty calm. I like to brag on how I burn a lot of the more less desirable fuelwoods. Of course it doesn't last as long or contain as many btu's as good coaling hardwood.

This evening's main course is three splits of Leyland cypress. I cleaned the glass about a week ago using newspaper, a little water to dip the paper in and then dab it in some fine wood ash from inside the firebox. It's looking good after it's second cleaning of the season. It will eventually form the 'Angel wings' that is typical on the hinge side of the doors and also collects some fine wood ash on the glass over time. The fine wood ash builds up so slowly that it's hard to notice how bad it's gotten until the glass is cleaned and then it's an 'ah ha' moment.

21ºF outside, 63ºF inside this AM. Eastern white pine warming things up, will be toasty in no time.
Have some dead standing white oak that was split Saturday. 13% Nice coals in the AM.
Have a bunch of 48" rounds that need cutting and splitting. It''s all mostly big rounds on the ground that needs to be dealt with and this is a nice time of year for it.

17 feels like 2, kinda windy. Weather on the way this weekend. Our climate will change and has changed from 51 yesterday, below freezing today and rain/snow etc over the weekend.

Punky oak in making coals and some good maple and oak on deck. 68 and warming inside.

    Stay warm my friends!
