Kubotas at play. Er, I mean work!

I did remember yesterday...lol...
It works good, built from things laying around...

The yellow boxframe underneath was a motor and gear drive table from work, they threw it in the scrap hopper
The main weight is the D8 Cat undercarriage rollers, then later we added the mill shaft and hitch. Makes a good bumper when working in the woods too.

 

Spent some time this weekend logging in the back property. Ended up with a beech tree that had bark cracking at the base, top shattered when it hit the ground.
Cut a couple white birch that looked a little suspect on health.

Also took an ash that was 16” DBH with being 33’ to the first crotch. Ended up being two trips with the skidding winch, and a grapple of limb wood.

I wish I could afford the special edition colored machine! I’m still mad about loosing one of my chain chokers this weekend! My poor JD is used pretty hard all year, didn’t even get a bath this year due to the drought. One day it might become orange overnight.

My Kubota sales guy really wants to take both my JD tractors in and swap them for orange ones. He reminds me every time we run into each other around town.

 

So true, I priced them out when I was looking. Green dealer was closer and cheaper at the time. Now they have changed ownership, and I won’t walk in there anymore.

My buddy 75 hp JD is 3/4 mile down road, sometimes its really helpful to have 2 .. I would put SSQA on my bucket but for around $1,500
My house to Ryan’s and back is 1 and 1/2 miles. Apparently it’s easier to do couple miles pay couple grand..

In our drought last summer he brought JD over and put mower on it to tell me I should upgrade to AC in cab!

 

Just lost in the snow? It might yet turn up, next warm spell. I try to keep some orange paint on all my woods stuff, but it doesn't last long on some things like chains.

 

I have a roll of orange duck tape. I put a piece on stuff that is going to be outside. It helps a lot.

 

It came off the skidding winch in my travels, not sure how though as I usually hook the hooks over the bar grab. They have bright red hooks on them, so it should be easy to find, but I haven’t seen it yet.
Wife has a couple rare earth magnets with 300 lbs of force pull on them, we’re going to go for a walk with them and see what we can find.

I did paint the lynch pins on the mini ex bucket Kubota orange so I could see them when they come out. I’ve lost 5 or 6 in the last couple years removing saplings and brush. Might be painting the chain chokers Kubota orange as well.

 

Had some time to get out to the wood yard this afternoon. Made sure to get a pic of the mini ex putting in work! Got all the wood cut to 8’ lengths and put into the pile.

 

Well it’s been a day, went out to fire up the mini ex to use in the wood yard, and it was dead. Took the battery out, put it on the charger and it was only at 6%. Figured I’d charge it, and then go about my day. 30 min later the charger shuts off and claims 93%. Thought it was odd, finished what I was working on, had an early lunch and went out to install it. It didn’t take a lick of a charge, machine wouldn’t do anything when the key was turned on, no display, no fan, no fuel pump. Machine is almost 5 yrs old so the battery doesn’t owe me anything.

So I pulled it again, and went into town, grabbed a battery from Napa, and once installed she was as good as new. Fired right up on first crank. Loaded up the saw, fuel, tools, and headed to the wood yard. Got everything cut to 8’ lengths, and in the wood pile. At least I got something done, I had planned on cutting a couple ash trees this afternoon, but they will have to wait.

A pic from yesterday, 24’ and 32’ hard maple logs, came back for the tops. Tree had a decent lean to it, and many small bends, so down it came. Playing in the powdery snow is fun, but slows progress.

She let me move and load limbs and logs...

 

Went around the edge of the field to get 3 ash trees that were looking less than great. Noticed them last summer missing half or more of the crown leaves. Ended up finding an overturned poplar next to one of them, so I grabbed that as well.

There’s 4 more ash trees to get down over a ravine about 15-25’. I started walking down it, and stopped when the snow got to my waist. I’ll grab them this summer I guess.

Braved the snow showers this afternoon and went to the wood yard to cut up the ash logs, and add them to the stack. Didn’t take long, and the heater works just fine this time of year!
