I get it. Mine isn't on the list where the government gives rebates for getting the smart t stat. I think there's something to that. Nobody's accessing my stat. I will say it's really nice to be able to see exactly what temperature it is in the house, for pets etc, while away from the house.
I’ll have to look around for one. There’s a few Amish lumber mills a half hour away but I always see a dump trailer out front half full of cutoffs.
never hurts to ask. 35 / 63 No fire overnight. Loaded up a n/s top/ down cedar, oak and pine. Just enough to get the place a bit warmer. Supposed to top out mid 40's again today. Snow here is all gone. Rain tonight. Colder temps return Monday morning.
22 No fire yet. Some confused sort of snow falling at the moment. Supposed to turn into 5" by tomorrow morning.
33°/68° at 8am when I woke up after sleeping in. Reloaded with fir and box elder this am. I had a stove full of fir, and a small piece of box elder from the last reload from last night. Needless to say there were barely any coals left. I raked what little coals were going forward, put 2 pieces of fir in with a couple pieces of locust bark and wood slivers I saved for times like this, and a piece of gnarly box elder on top between the fir pieces, and threw in a crumpled piece of paper in and it lit up on its own, no messing around. I was impressed that it started up so easily, considering the stove was almost cold, and the lack of coals. Also I have a good stash of birch bark from a local birch score I got 2 years ago from the neighbor. I like to use that for cold starts, but it is all outside. I'll need to refill my tinder box with that stuff.
The last couple of days have brought winter to my area! Yesterday's high of 35°f and overnight low of 12°f with a fresh inch of snow. White oak in the stove keeping the house more than warm enough!
Scrape it off or wait for it to melt? Decisions, decisions.... lol we hit 40 here it's about gone now.
30/68 2 oak splits and some small rounds in the fireplace this morning. Last night put a knotty chunk of pine in and had to clean the glass this morning.
Wind kicked up around 2 this past morning. Less than 2" of fresh stuff; just pushed it out of the way with shovels. Mid 20's now.
28/72 have a load of ash and cherry choochin. Ground is white again, just about an inch. Just brought 2 wheelbarrow loads to the house and patio.
Been very windy all day. Wind chills in the low 20’s. Just loaded up with an 80/20 mix of black locust and oak.
