37/68. Burning some punky oak that got rained on a while ago. Not the driest but it still burns hot enough.
29 here. Freezing rain overnight. Slippery out there. 62 inside and warming. Oak and maple are the order of the day!
32F out 62F in I let the fire go out last night to facilitate an ash clean out this morning House is cold but not for long A 3 oak base and and a 4 piece elm kindling pile on top we be cooking in no time
And I will say that I am burning more wood so far this season than normal. I do not attribute this to colder temps because it’s been a mild winter so far here. I am burning more because my wife is retired now. She likes it warmer. I project we will burn more than our normal 2.5 to 3 cords on an average season. I call Jan 25 our mid point,,,,
Interesting point that clears up some things for me! Same thing happened to us. I probably didn't realize what was happening at the time because the the last two years my wife tapered off of work before finally retiring. The increase in fire wood use was not so abrupt and noticeable. One thing we know for sure is that we have to keep those Gals warm! Goes far to promoting domestic tranquility. Also makes it a lot easier when we want to buy a new chainsaw!
70/68. Low tonight of 58. I'm beginning to feel like an outsider in this group. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder in Ok. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
38/72 lumber cutoffs and Shagbark skinnies. I wondered at the time I was cutting them why I was dealing with them. They will be nice in the warmer weather for the next few days.
I like the way you think! Ima gonna use that! (waiting patiently for a Stihl 400.1 to arrive on our shores)
36/68 more of this wet punky oak. I should put a log or two in front of the burner to dry the surface moisture off for the next reload.
35/69. Let the fire go out last night. We had to hit 60 yesterday (at work). I'll do an ash pan clean out when I get home and relight.
41f at 0430 this morning and currently at 37f at 0700. They say we will get up to 43 with rain starting at 1000. Need the moisture but hope it holds off so I can try to do some splitting this afternoon.
28 this morning at 6am. Now 34 and rising. Supposed to top out around 43 which is the high here for the last 4 weeks or so. Maple and oak and Should be last wood for the day until it starts to cool later on.
December was definitely colder than normal in Wisconsin. I see I've burned more than typically at this point of the season. We had dog overnight after a 40+ degree day yesterday. That fog froze last night/ this am, making the roads slick where they were not treated. Today is going to get to 45° or so. It was 29° this am when I reloaded at 6am with box elder. House was 72° and the furnace was quiet, aside from the 5 minutes per hour of the HVAC fan running to circulate the air better.
