My Uncle just gifted me his Jonsered 630 Super II. He had a 16 inch bar on it and I was wondering if I'd be able to put a 20 inch on it. I have a couple 16 inch saws already (Stihl MS 251) and this one has about 17cc more displacement than those ones do (62cc vs 45cc) so I'm hoping I can put a bigger bar on it and use if for bigger cuts. Anyone got any experience putting a 20 inch bar on this saw and would you recommend it? Saw.png Saw2.png

You can definitely run a 20”. My 56.5cc Husky can with 20 and it had zero issue running that stock.

That's an awesome gift :DI have the Husqvarna rough equivalent (model 61) and I've run up to a 24" on mine. I'm sure the Jonsered is stronger than a Husky 61 too.

You can run what it will oil properly which would be up to a 28” I’ve ran full comp 3/8” on my 266XP 24” and 28” 3/8” full comp on my 268XP. I would probably run full skip on 24 or 28 on that saw.

I vote 20" for 60cc, not that it matters. 24 at a push. Or you could keep the 16 and throw an 8 pin sprock on there.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I'm good to go with a larger bar. I think I'll just go with a 20". Here in the upper plains I rarely run into anything that would require a larger bar than that - mostly I'm cutting mulberry, elm, ash, and hackberry out of fence-lines.

Spring for one of those fancy bars like Eric pictured above. They are better than average steel and don’t wear much at all. And they look great.

I checked that brand out actually. It was $97 for the bar without a chain. There was a deal on a 20" Oregon chain and bar combo for $40 so I ordered that. I don't deny that the Tsumura looks awesome though... maybe some day.

Tsumura bars are great for weight reduction on the longer bars, but the difference when running a short 18-20" isn't much. But you'll still get the added benefit of better durability, which is a huge plus. I only have two Tsumuras (24" and a 32") and the rest of my bars are a mix of Windsor, Oregon, Husqvarna, and one Forester.
