It got at least 10°F COLDER . The max wood usage we got up to was 12 cubic feet per day. To keep the far back wall of the farthest room from the woodstove. Above 56°F without any fans on or other electrical assistance . Approximately 31 feet away from the woodstove . The kitchen/living room ran 65 to 75 degrees. With the far back room wall maxing out at 63° . But outside temperature, Halibut Cheeks, 64 , 65 below F ambient is just stupid COOO OOO OLD . Managed to burn up almost all the spruce short butt chunks . And a bunch of my 16 to 22 " splits of Birch and spruce. Plus , throwing in lots ofthe little and odd ball stuff in the shed . At the moment I have half of a fire killed spruce Root Wad in the stove ! I'm definitely Not a wood snob . But, with God's help . I did keep us by and large , comfortably warm !!! Currently it's-32°F and blowing 30 . This is wonderful to us ! Believe it or not ! This is what we call "Normal winter cold" ! Yes, with the wind chill , it's still Stupid cold . But until you've lived and functioned in the 60s below ambient . Done over 1/2 mile of dog walks and night outdoor chores in it . And Not gotten any cold injuries , basically burns. Ya can't understand why -60 w c is much warmer. All ya gotta do is block the wind or breeze. I have a problem frost nipping finger tips on my left hand . Only got the tip of my left hand under finger so far this winter , Thank God . Have had my hands get kinda stupid a few times . But was able to rewarm them in time. Sorry to ramble on . This is Jack, my big Maremma enjoying the 60 below by guarding out in the open .
20. Cold Trigger Finger I don't know about you but once frostbitten, the same affected areas seem more sensitive to becoming frostbit again.......for over 50 years now.
35/68, burning some oak. Nice little warm up this week to make some ice and mud in the yard. The positive side of that is I much prefer to process wood when there’s no snow on it!
Currently 33f out heading to 52f for the day. Been getting some smoke in the house so no fire until I get on the roof, hopefully this afternoon, clean the chimney that has never been a problem before, and check the cat as I'm wondering if that could be getting clogged with ash.
I agree about processing wood with no snow on the ground. I have a good amount to split and some to cut and then split now. This warm up and rain today will melt all the snow that's left. It was 34° this am. 74° in the stove room. I reloaded with ash and box elder.
It's super foggy here in SE Wisconsin. Rainy too. Good thing it's not colder because that would have been a lot of snow.
55 out now, supposed to hit 60 in the next couple days. Mix of walnut, pear, and cherry in the boiler. Only about a week worth of that stuff left then it's on to square wood and ash for the rest of winter. I got an email for the electric company warning me my bill will be higher this month because it got cold in December. They must have me confused with someone else.
