I found an Echo CS-400 on the local Marketplace and decided to try it out. It looked well used but fired right up so I’m hoping it will be a keeper. I don’t know why they put a 25” bar on this saw but I will put an 18” bar on for the first go round.
They respond well to a muffer mod that includes removing the cat. Or you can buy this version that has no cat and mod it.
I have 2 of the CS-400 saws. One of my favorites. One is new in box and the other I got used with low hours and I ported it.
I fired up my slightly modded CS-590 Timberwolf today. I have an 18” bar on it & a muffle off fleabay, more of a straight pipe. I used earplugs and shooting muffs, lets the neighbors know you’re serious. I’ve been a Stihl guy but this saw it cutting like a herd of beavers in an aspen patch. Don’t grouse, I was cutting relatively soft white pine, as I open up the property some. It also happened to be right near my wood piles. With the moderating temps I’m trying to get a jump on spring, burned some brush also. I pride myself with using a wide range of firewood, I realize pine isn’t rated high, but with moderate temps it’s easy to keep the house at 75+. I have the better stuff for the serious cold.
